Convict Was Granted Clemency In Dog Strangling Incident -- Then Allegedly Murdered 3 Women!

Convict Was Granted Clemency In Dog Strangling Incident -- Then Allegedly Murdered 3 Women!

A violent criminal has been charged with murder over a year after three women turned up dead in the Pacific Northwest. And one of the most awful parts? He had already been in custody…

Last week, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced Oregon man Jesse Lee Calhoun, 39, was charged with three counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Charity Lynn Perry, 24, Bridget Leanne Webster, 31, and Joanna Speaks, 32. All three women were suspiciously found dead in April of last year.

You may remember our April 2023 report about Joanna, who was found dead in Ridgefield, Washington with blunt force trauma to the head and neck after going missing in March. At the time, investigators and Joanna’s family alike were puzzled by her death, vowing to not give up on finding answers. Later in the same month, Perry was found dead in Oregon near Ainsworth State Park, while Webster was also found dead about a week later near Polk County, Oregon.

The common thread? Well, investigators say it’s Jesse.

Upsettingly, the convict was out of prison at the time after being granted clemency while serving a four-year prison sentence. The charges? Assaulting a police officer and attempting to STRANGLE a police dog! According to the Associated Press, he was also convicted of burglary, amongst other things. And in June of 2023, he was sent back to prison for allegedly getting “involved in criminal activity currently under investigation,” per Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt said, via KOIN. So much for that clemency in the dog-strangling case…

But that means in the brief time he was out of prison, all three murders took place.

In July of last year, KOIN reported that Jesse was a person of interest in the three killings. He’s currently being held at a correctional facility in Oregon, charged with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of abuse of a corpse, per the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. It’s not clear if he has an attorney or has entered a plea deal.

To think, if he hadn’t been granted clemency, all three of these women would still be alive. We shudder to think how a man would be shown such compassion after trying to kill a dog, but then again it’s clear some folks just don’t view that crime the same as everyone else.
