Demi, who uses she/they pronouns, is part of the forthcoming Child Star documentary, and along with it, she just spoke to the Hollywood Reporter for a feature about her life and career. Specifically, they chatted about what it was like growing up famous following her big break on Disney Channel‘s Camp Rock.

When the outlet asked Demi whether she would allow her future children to become a star in music, television, or film like they did, the 31-year-old singer-actress was adamant. HELL NO! But she’d tell them why! They said:

“I’d say, ‘Let’s study music theory and prepare you for the day you turn 18, because it’s not happening before that. Not because I don’t believe in you or love you or want you to be happy, but because I want you to have a childhood, the childhood that I didn’t have.'”

Pretty wise, TBH! Smart to give them the tools to really learn music, via music theory. And also smart to let kids be kids for a while longer. After all, you can’t do it as an adult!

Also, just in case Demi’s future children do want to go into entertainment as adults, she’s going to encourage them to have a “backup plan.” Which is something she didn’t have!! Demi explained:

“[That is] something I wish I’d done because sometimes I think it’s time for me to move on, but I’m in this weird position in my career because I still rely on music for my income.”

The aforementioned Hulu doc will debut on the streaming service on September 17, by the way. It features Lovato chatting on screen with other former child stars including Raven-Symoné, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Drew Barrymore, Alyson Stoner, and JoJo Siwa. Sounds like they got some really big names for this one! And they’re going to be unloading all their wisdom! But that wisdom was earned the hard way…

Elsewhere in the interview, Demi gave some insights into how complicated life got when she was a child, and she was the one earning all the money for her family. Echoing the sentiment many child stars have posited after their young careers, she noted:

“Having the child be the breadwinner almost inherently changes the dynamic of a family, and then it becomes, like, how do you discipline that breadwinner?”

Good question…

That discipline came down to her mom, Dianna De La Garza, and her stepfather Eddie De La Garza — who entered the picture years after the death of Demi’s biological father Patrick. Demi recalled how Eddie would do his best to offer some discipline to her as a young girl, including when he would “try to ground me.” But at the height of her fame, Demi fought back:

“But I was an egotistical child star, and I thought I was on top of the world. I’d be like, ‘But I pay the bills,’ and what do you say to that?”

In the end, as she looks back on her childhood and teenage behavior with the benefit of hindsight and maturity, Demi reflected on how much missing out on the love of her biological father affected her — among other things. She explained:

“I think part of me always thought that if I made it in the industry that I would get the love from my birth dad that I didn’t have. And he was troubled, and I think I always chased success because I knew it would put me in his line of sight again and it would make him proud of me. But now that I’ve dealt with those daddy issues, I don’t need the industry as much as I once did, and I’m proud of myself for getting here.”

Over two decades after first joining the world of entertainment management — at the surprisingly young age of 19 — the infamous entrepreneur is finally hanging it up. In a lengthy Instagram post on Monday, captioned “23 years”, the 42-year-old went down memory lane through his entire career before announcing he’d made the decision to retire. He wrote in a carousel of images:

“23 years. That’s how long I have been a music manager. 23 years ago a 19 year old kid started managing an artist named Cato in Atlanta, GA and my journey began. Along the way I have had so many experiences I could never have dreamt of. I have been blessed to have had a ‘Forrest Gump’-like life while witnessing and taking part in the journeys of some of the most extraordinarily talented people the world has ever seen. I’m constantly pinching myself and asking ‘how did I get here?’ And after 23 years this chapter as a music manager has come to an end.”

He went on to explain how music management consumed his life 24/7 — and for a while he “loved it” — but now he’s ready to focus more on his kids after his “personal life took some hits”. But just because he’s disappearing from the management scene doesn’t mean he’s gone for good. He explained he’ll be continuing his role as the CEO of his company HYBE America:

“In this next chapter I have been honored to join as a board member of Hybe and serve as the CEO of Hybe America. My brilliant partner these past 3 years, Chairman Bang, has a vision I truly believe in. But even beyond that he has become a true friend who understands where I must be in my life these days. And that is a father first, a CEO second, and a manager no more.”

Scooter added how he felt he’d been heading toward retirement for a couple years now, saying it was God’s plan for him. Innerestingly he says doesn’t regret any of the time he spent as a manager. In particular, he said he still supports ALL his past clients and is cheering on “every single one of them”:

“I have nothing but love for those I have worked with over the years, and as we develop a different working relationship, I will always be in their corner to consult and support them whether it be directly or from afar. Every client I have had the privilege of working with has changed my life, and I know many of them are just beginning to see the success they deserve. I will cheer for every single one of them.”

No regrets, huh? Of course, the record exec has been mired in controversy ever since he bought Taylor Swift‘s discography masters — allegedly right out from under her. And when he name dropped all his current and past clients with to thank them for all their work and time over the years, every big name he collaborated, he notably left her name off the list.

He reflected on his work with artists like Andrew Watt, Lil Dicky, Tori Kelly, J Balvin, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Steve Angello, Carly Rae Jepsen, PSY, Quavo, Kanye West, YG, The Kid LAROI, Dan+Shay, Asher Roth, and Usher. He also threw out the names of Demi Lovato and the Zac Brown Band, but it wasn’t until he started in on the successes of Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber did he really show his pride. The music pro said it had been an honor watching them grow up into the “legends they are today”:

“There will never be a day where I don’t take great pride and honor in what we accomplished together. The same can be said for so many I have had the pleasure of once being called “manager”.”

Scooter didn’t forget to address the elephant in the room, though! At least indirectly. He took a moment to reflect on how he says he’s always taken “the high road” when “attacked.” He wrote:

“There has been a lot said about what is happening in our company… and in my career. When we had success I smiled, and when we were attacked I always tried to take the high road. But for the last 3 years I have begin to feel that taking the high road has created confusion and ambiguity as to who we are.”

So Taylor “attacked” him, is what he’s saying? And he’s the better person for taking the high road, but also he now thinks taking the high road was a mistake? Hmm…

The record executive said his colleagues will now be the ones taking over the management positions while he oversees this new era diving into primarily K-Pop, new artists, new investments, and his family. Wrapping up his statement, he said:

“So yes, it’s been 23 your ears. And yes, this chapter has come to an end. But the great Berry Gordy once told me ‘young man, it never ends the way you wanted, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.’ That wisdom has proven to be correct. I never saw how this chapter would end, hell, I never even saw it happening. But it did. And I will cherish every moment of it. I made my plan… but it turns out I like God’s plan better. Cheers!”

Demi Lovato went through some low lows before she found herself again.

This week, the 31-year-old pop star sat down at The Center For Youth Mental Health‘s annual benefit in New York alongside Anna Wintour‘s son Dr. Charlie Shaffer. There, she opened up about her mental health struggles over the years — and explained why healing and overcoming obstacles is not always linear. She revealed, according to multiple outlets, she’d been to multiple treatment centers, but her continuous relapses made her feel “defeated”:

“I have been to inpatient treatment five times, and it has [been] something that every single time I walked back into a treatment center, I felt defeated.”

Just because the Heart Attack singer felt down, that didn’t stop her from climbing her way back up. She explained:

“[Things started to improve when I started] putting in the work and I started to, whether it was work, a program, or talk to my treatment team and build relationships there. I think the glimmer of hope started to change when I started to find joy and the little things in life. And that was something that was so foreign to me before because I was so used to, so used to not seeing hope.”

We can imagine how uplifting that must’ve felt!

The first four times weren’t the charm for Demi, though. She recalled hitting “rock bottom” before she went in for treatment for the fifth time — but luckily she “knew what I needed to do, which was to live a life in recovery” as well as “needing the right medication”:

“I think for me, medication has helped me tremendously. It’s helped so many people tremendously. And I think I had hit another low, and I was like, ‘What am I doing wrong?’ I felt defeated. But then, when all of the key parts started to fit into place like a perfect puzzle, I started to find the light again.”

Wrapping up, the Confident hitmaker said she’s “grateful” for what she’s “been through and what I’ve overcome”:

“It’s just a part of what makes me, me. Meaning my struggles have shaped me into the pottery that you see today, but it’s never become my identity since then.”

The pop star is taking heat after some shaaady alleged DMs just leaked — in which she takes jabs at Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, and SO many more! That is if any of this is even real…

Here’s the deal. On Wednesday, alleged texts and Instagram direct messages between the Victorious alum and celebrity news account Pop Crave surfaced online. The messages appear to be from 2018 and 2019, based on the few dates can be seen. The rest are firmly dated by pop culture references, like her then-brand new Charlie’s Angels collab with Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey. But, obviously, anything these days can be made with photoshop — especially something like this. So, take everything with a grain of salt… and let’s dive in!

For starters, the Wicked star supposedly called the “production” of Khalid‘s song with Ed Sheeran (likely Beautiful People) “a nap” and “a snooze,” saying, “everything’s so boring.”

Later, she reacted to Tana Mongeau and Jake Paul‘s engagement news in 2019, replying to an IG Story writing, “jesus christ.” She then followed up with:

“a whole nightmare sry sry sry sry / that’s / their poor children”

The next year, the 30-year-old returned to the DM chain to ask the outlet to “delete the thing about pete / doug,” possibly referring to her ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson and pal Doug Middlebrook. They were all seen hanging together that year, but it’s unclear what the post was about. Because Pop Crave agreed to the request and deleted it! When they did, the 7 Rings artist allegedly replied:

“wow i didn’t expect u to delete it. thanks. that’s so kind. we are and will. it’s just hard bc my fans and i are so close! but thank you that’s the sweetest ever. if you ever need anything from me tickets or m&g or whatever let me know id love to hug you guys when i come to your city.”

Elsewhere, someone from Pop Crave asked Ari what it was like to meet Selena Gomez at the AMAs — and she didn’t have anything nice to say! The Thank U, Next vocalist supposedly wrote:

“a facade / idk her well / but that meeting was really fake”

She continued:

“not rlly her songs don’t vibe with me / i can not remember the last time i listened to a selena song “

After the outlet agreed, noting Selly’s last great hit was Fetish and that “stan Twitter doesn’t care for her music,” she chimed in that she and Demi Lovato were the same — famous but not for their good music:

“yea! shes just there like Demi / lol”

Arlo is Jesse’s 15-year-old child from a previous relationship. So exciting for them all!

An Instagram account bashing her engagement went viral on Wednesday, and it appeared to be run by Max Ehrich! Yeah, Demi’s ex-fiancé! Remember that guy?! For those who don’t, let’s rewind for a second…

The Heart Attack songstress began dating the 32-year-old actor in 2020 following her breakup from longtime on-again, off-again boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. They had a whirlwind romance and got engaged in July 2020. Two months later, though, the pair broke up — amid stories he had frequently professed his stanhood for Selena Gomez online!

The two didn’t have the most amicable breakup either, with a lot of shade thrown from both sides at the time! And who could forget those infamous pictures paparazzi took of Max crying on the beach in Malibu a day after their breakup!? After their drama died down, we haven’t heard from Max in a while — until now!

As we mentioned before, an account on Instagram made the rounds online this week when some dramatic posts popped up and made it sound like Max was struggling with Demi and Jordan’s engagement. One message said alongside pictures of the couple:

It was incredibly alarming. Obviously this is a bit too odd to be real, but, well… so was a lot with the guy, frankly. So plenty of folks online assumed this was on the level, and Max really was behind the account.

However, the actor took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday night to slam the “fake” posts! He insisted from his verified account:

“I am aware of the fake pages that were created to post fabricated and cruel messages about a truly joyful occasion in Demi’s life, a moment that should only be celebrated. That chapter of our shared lives was closed peacefully and privately a long time ago.”

Despite how those posts may make it seem, Max insists he wants only “the best for everyone,” adding:

“From the bottom of my heart, I truly wish them a lifetime of peace and happiness. I ask respectfully to be removed from this narrative and for the fake accounts and posts to cease having any relevance.”

It was said to be a “personal and intimate” proposal, which was followed up with a combined family celebration at Craig’s, a dining fave for the pair. Awww!

As we previously reported, the controversial talent manager’s top artists all started jumping ship earlier this year — artists like Demi Lovato, Idina Menzel, and Justin Bieber were all part of the HYBE CEO’s departures. But unfortunately for the artists who want to leave, it hasn’t been as simple as shaking hands and walking away!

Ari was one of several artists who suddenly wanted out of Scooter’s company. So much so, at the time she announced her break away from his companies, an insider made it VERY CLEAR to TMZ that she was on her way out the door:

“Scooter’s team is spinning the story. Ariana is leaving both Scooter and Hybe. There is absolutely no truth to her staying.”

In fact, last weekend it was even revealed she signed on to Brandon Creed‘s new label Good World Management! A big F.U. since the music exec who created the competing label is Scooter’s friend. But even with her new manager, she isn’t able to completely cut ties with the 42-year-old legally, according to a source for DailyMail.com on Thursday. The insider explained:

“Although Ariana has indeed found new music management, she has not dropped or cut ties with Scooter because she is tied in contractually. She continues to be contractually bound to Scooter as there are several long term contracts still in place. If Ariana were to release a new album tomorrow, she would still be obligated to pay Scooter in addition to Brandon. Nothing has changed there.”

Despite her contractual obligation, though, Ari is doing her best to not collaborate with her old manager, according to a second source:

“She is not working with Scooter. There are legal proceedings pending over what, if anything, each party is entitled to as a result of the contract ending.”

This is similar to what JB is doing — trying to legally work everything out so they can officially cut ties. And while no one is for sure what’s going on behind the scenes, a third source suggested Ariana’s shocking alleged affair with Ethan Slater had something to do with it. They claimed Scooter wasn’t doing his part in protecting her public image:

“Ariana wanted Scooter to do an immediate intervention to salvage her image after being accused of breaking up Ethan’s marriage. But Scooter was not there for her in her time of need and this just wasn’t right to her.”

Oof. It’s no doubt her image took a hit since the controversial relationship came to light. For her manager — the one who’s always supposed to be in her corner — to not have her back during such a big issue would sting, for sure! But it wouldn’t be the first time he’s been accused of some awful behavior.
