On Tuesday, publisher Penguin Random House announced that the Duke of Sussex‘s book will be published in paperback in the US on October 22. And two days later, on October 24, it’ll hit shelves in the UK! But there’s an interesting addition to note here that is TOTALLY changing the dynamic of this version. And if it works… it might be a major step towards reconciliation with Harry’s estranged father King Charles, and his estranged brother Prince William.

See, in addition to announcing those October release dates on Tuesday, the publisher also announced that the contents of the paperback version of Spare will remain completely unchanged from the hardcover version! That’s a big deal!! In most cases, paperback editions include extra chapters and content so as to entice people to buy them long after the hardcover versions of books have come out.

But with Spare, there will be NO changes. So, no new surprises to William, Charles, and the rest of the royal family! We thought for a long time that there would be additional chapters involved in the paperback version. But Penguin Random House has opted not to go that route.

And that’s why this is such a big (non) move. Per People, insiders are already noting that the decision to run the book without any updates is widely being viewed as a small but important step towards reconciliation between Harry and his estranged family. There’s no other shoe to fall, no more drama to reveal, no more surprises to unearth. They’ll know what to expect with the paperback version and (theoretically) be able to handle it!

Princess Catherine‘s husband has been enjoying a low-key and mostly private summer break at Anmer Hall with his beloved wife and their three kids — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. It’s something the family obviously needed! But in just a couple weeks, the summer will end, and he’ll return to his official royal duties. The grind never stops!

On Thursday, Kensington Palace announced that the 42-year-old father of three will be visiting the Homelessness: Reframed art exhibit at London’s Saatchi Gallery on September 5 for his first event back. That showing is about homelessness in the United Kingdom and tells the stories of people affected by it. Tthe Prince of Wales will be there in an official capacity, representing the Crown with a summit to observe the art and meet stakeholders.

Not something Will knows anything about, right? Considering he’s leaving one of his stately homes to see it.

Well, this event is actually personal for William! The project is a collaboration with the Homewards program, which he and his Royal Foundation launched back in June 2023. Their goal is to end homelessness in the UK for good. Per People, William’s spokesperson relayed this statement from the Prince of Wales about the persistent issue of unhoused people:

“This is an issue that can be prevented and ended.”

So important! And such a good cause! This will certainly be a worthy way for William to dip his proverbial toe back into the world of officially royal outings.

BTW, this upcoming engagement will be Will’s first public appearance since mid-July when he and Prince George popped up at the UEFA European Championship soccer final England played against Spain in Berlin, Germany. And of course, these recent months have been trying amid Catherine’s ongoing cancer battle. We know King Charles‘ first-born son has relished in these last few critical summer months of being able to be near to her, and carry on their lives in private.

But soon, he’ll return to his royal responsibilities. We’re sure that more drama will inevitably come. But for now, the first official royal event is on the docket, and with it, the man who shall be King will get back to what he has done all of his life. Thoughts, Perezcious readers?? It’s no secret Will and Camilla have never been the best of friends. Considering her affair with King Charles III amid his marriage to Princess Diana, that was always bound to be a complicated relationship!

The fam has put on a rather united front for the public lately. But apparently, things are still tense, even all these years later — and not just because of the affair! Recalling the moment William met Camilla when he was 17, royal expert Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly on Monday:

“She was shaking like a leaf. As soon as William left, she said she needed a gin and tonic.”

LOLz! WHUT??

While they’ve always seemed to get along in public, the Prince of Wales seemed to snub Camilla in July when he removed her sister Annabel Elliot (Charles’ chief interior designer) from the Duchy of Cornwall payroll. Andersen admitted there’s ongoing tension between the queen and future king, but he insisted it wasn’t meant to be a diss, arguing it was merely an “inevitable” business move, explaining, “William wants his own team in there.”

Meanwhile, two other sources told the outlet that William and Camilla have made great strides ever since Charles and Princess Catherine were diagnosed with cancer. A source said they have “a familial relationship these days,” while a friend of the Parker Bowles family elaborated:

“William has warmed up to Camilla over time.”

But they’re not out of the woods yet, per the first source:

“There’s a lot to overcome. William and Harry had always distrusted Camilla and felt resentment toward her because of their devotion to their mother. They never felt comfortable opening up to her in any real way.”

One reason Harry and William had issues with Camilla was amid claims she was giving the press negative stories about the royals to boost her image. The source acknowledged:

“William and Harry’s distrust grew when they found out Camilla was leaking stories to the press to make herself look better.”

In Spare, Harry even revealed both brothers had begged their father not to marry his now-wife. So that says a lot! Andersen said they’ve “put on a good front” publicly, “but I don’t think they were happy with Camilla stepping in.” But thanks to being united in their spat with Harry, Will and Camilla were able to grow closer.

A source said that when the Duke of Sussex parted the family in 2020, the other royals were able to put some of their differences aside, sharing:

“It brought them closer. William and Kate don’t want any extra drama or tension in the family — they have enough of that with Meghan [Markle] and Harry.”

Kate Middleton was reportedly a key factor in this reconciliation, the Parker Bowles family friend dished:

“It was really Kate who warmed William to Camilla.”

Catherine was supposedly accepting of Camilla long before the others, the first source added:

“She’s never been dismissive of Camilla and always treated her with kindness.”

Apparently, Will and Kate like Camilla’s down-to-earth personality, the insider added:

“They both like the fact that Camilla’s normal and makes Charles less stuffy. Kate likes her because she brings a real-life relatability into the family. She’s not all about the courtiers waiting on hand and foot. Camilla’s real like Kate is.”

But that may not be the full truth. The royal author had a VERY different opinion, claiming Camilla was initially opposed to Will and Kate marrying! Christopher claimed Camilla didn’t think Kate “was of their class,” revealing:

“Camilla’s a believer in aristocracy [and] kind of a snob.”

Oof! That had to have annoyed William! You know how protective he is of his wife! Fueled in part by that issue, the father of three still isn’t a huge fan of his stepmother but rather “tolerates her.” Ouch. Meanwhile, the author argued Camilla “has always been a little afraid of William.” Yeesh. Certainly sounds like they have a tricky dynamic!

At the end of the day, no matter their issues, William isn’t fighting his father’s romance anymore, the Parker Bowles family friend furthered:

“If his dad’s happy, William’s happy. Camilla and Charles get on so well and laugh all the time. Whenever you see them together, they’re having fun and giggling. That’s what William likes about Camilla — she warms his father up and brings out his human side.”

The source also defended their unusual arrangement which has Charles spending most of his time in Scotland while Camilla prefers staying in Wiltshire, England, where she can be close to her three grandkids (from her children from a previous marriage). The family friend insisted time apart like this is “totally normal in royal and aristocratic circles, and it works for them.” Now that the monarch is battling cancer, though, “she’s been looking after him” and they’ve spent much more time together. A confidant expressed:

“Camilla’s been taking great care of Charles.”

She’s also offered to help Kate with anything she may need during her treatment, as well, which has surely softened tensions with William. Christopher concluded:

“Charles’ illness has put Camilla’s devotion and dedication to her husband more in focus. And I’m sure William appreciates that.”

Health crises can definitely bring families together! Maybe not the whole family, but this is still progress.

Of course, the monarch is in the midst of a fight against cancer right now, and has been undergoing treatments to battle the disease for months. Well, this week, the 75-year-old gave a bit more insight into that fight, and how it’s been going. And he only needed four words to do it!

The occasion in question was an event held for those affected by the Southport mass stabbing, which occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed event in that city on July 29. The tragedy left three young children dead, and several other people injured. On Wednesday, King Charles met with the families of those who were lost, as well as surviving victims of the tragedy. The entire event was emotionally charged, as you’d expect. But along the way, he also gave some insight into the upheavals in his personal life, too.

According to Express, one of the attendees at the somber event briefly changed the subject to politely ask Prince William‘s father how he was coming along with his cancer fight. And King Charles offered up some good news! In a very low-key way, at least. Needing just four words to answer the query, he said:

“I’m not too bad.”

We love to hear that! Per that same outlet, he appeared to be in fine fettle while interacting with those at the memorial. Obviously, it was not a happy event with lots of smiles and laughs, so he wasn’t carefree or heartening in that way. But it’s great to hear that Charles is currently upbeat about his battle nonetheless!

As Perezcious readers know, for months now, the monarch has been trying to get his brother and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson to move out of their home, the Royal Lodge. The Duke of York signed a 75-year lease on the property in the early 2000s, so he has no intention of leaving. Still, Charles is fighting against his stay and wants the co-parents to move into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s old place, Frogmore Cottage. Last we heard, His Majesty was tired of funding his younger bro’s ritzy lifestyle — and now he’s doing something about it!

On Sunday, The Sun reported that Charles has stripped Andrew of his 10-person private security team!

Just like Harry, when Andrew stopped being a working royal following his Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre scandal, he lost his police protection. He also lost his annual allowance, per Us Weekly. Unlike the Duke of Sussex, Charles has been helping Andrew maintain police protection at the 31-room mansion, where the private security team was stationed. But according to a Palace insider via The Sun, all this is coming to an end. They dished:

“Everyone is speculating this means the Duke will have to leave the Royal Lodge because what other reason could there be to take his security away? They are all working the final weeks of their contract till the end of October. It’s not thought anyone is being lined up to replace them. It isn’t a secret that the King wants him out.”

Wow! It’s currently unclear if Andrew plans to pay for his own security detail or what his next steps are.

Interestingly, sources also told the outlet that the Royal Household has no plans to move any other royals into the property (should Andrew ever leave). Instead, they want to find a new tenant for the place. They’re probably looking for a way to make some money off the property, which requires expensive upkeep every year. As the current tenant, Andrew is supposed to be responsible for $503,000 a year of upkeep, but photos obtained of the property suggest he’s been avoiding doing the necessary work, The Mirror reported in May. This is yet another reason Charles may want him out.

Meanwhile, two apartments are being refurbished at Kensington Palace but neither of them is being saved for Andrew, The Sun noted. That said, it doesn’t sound like he has been persuaded to leave his abode yet, but it’s interesting that Charles is threatening him with the security! Previously, The Times sources claimed one of the big reasons the 75-year-old wanted Andrew at Frogmore was because it “has the benefit of being within the Windsor Castle security cordon hence reducing the need for alternative round-the-clock security for Royal Lodge.” So, now it seems like Charles is trying to force Andrew’s hand.

There’s just one problem with his plan. According to The Sun, Charles is still paying Andrew £4 million a year to keep him afloat. This is seemingly unrelated to the money he spent on the mansion’s security detail. (Why does he need with that much money if he’s not working or paying for his own security? Jeez!) If Charles really wants to stick it to Andrew, he could revoke all his brother’s funding. We bet Andy would listen to his demands then! But right now, it doesn’t seem like the King is ready to be that mean! We’ll see what happens if this eviction debate rages on, though!

Despite this battle, the father of Princess Beatrice and Eugenie arrived at Balmoral Castle on Friday for a summer holiday, the outlet noted, where he will join Charles and other family members for a vacation. So, they may be beefing over this house, but it’s not a complete rift!

Speaking to Times Radio via Express on Sunday, author Andrew Morton insisted that the brothers’ relationship remains incredibly strained and likely won’t change now that Harry and Meghan Markle have mapped out a new plan for their careers! Morton suggested:

“I think that Harry and Meghan have worked out a life together. They have their own agenda and they have their own causes. And I don’t see any movement whatsoever towards a reconciliation.”

Oof…

With talk of the Suits alum working on her own tell-all memoir, too, it’s clear that the two royal couples are headed in very different directions! It’s not just their own “agendas” that suggest a reconciliation may never come, though. The Diana: Her True Story writer continued:

“I would say that they’ve got an established pattern in their lives. And if any year could have brought about a reconciliation with the King suffering from cancer, and we all know about [Princess Catherine] and her medical problems, this would be the year to have done it. But there’s obviously been no movement in that regard.”

He has a point. Cancer and other serious heath battles typically bring an estranged family back together, but these issues appear to have only made the feud more noticeable! Because of this, author Michael Cole also believes there’s “no chance” that the siblings will mend fences anytime soon. Yikes! He told GB News last week:

“I don’t think there’s any chance at all of there a reconciliation with the brothers now or in the foreseeable future.”

Jeez. That stinks. Michael went on to blame the rift on Harry and Meghan’s public bashings of the royal family, adding:

“It goes back to the Oprah Winfrey interview then the book Spare and all the things that were said in the Netflix six-part series, too much bad blood and William is not going to forgive.”

This comes after sources claimed the brothers haven’t spoken since 2022 when they attended their grandmother Queen Elizabeth II‘s funeral. That said, other sources have hope they’ll one day be able to resolve things, especially if Harry is able to mend things with King Charles III — who reportedly misses his young son despite their ongoing feud, as well.

Meanwhile, cousins Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall are said to be encouraging Willy to make amends with Harry. Former royal butler Grant Harrold told the New York Post earlier this month that Beatrice “could act as a peacemaker for Harry, William and Charles.” He noted:

“She would be someone to initiate peace in the family. She’s close to both William and Harry, as well as the king — and they trust her. It would be her out of anyone else — but she wouldn’t want to be too involved.”

He added:

“I have no doubt she would have spoken to the two brothers at some point to try to improve the situation.”

A much more positive outlook than the other sources! But don’t get excited quite yet. Just because family members want them to resolve things, it doesn’t mean the men are ready to forgive and forget! Grant expressed:

“You’d like to think this time would bring William and Harry closer, but we don’t really know what’s going on behind closed doors. […] They may well be discussing things and communicating, but it’s very difficult. I have no doubt there will be some kind of communication between the brothers, and between Harry and his father. […] Of course, a lot has happened, and a lot has to be resolved and sorted out. This may well be on track, but it may not have even been addressed yet.”

So far, it doesn’t seem like anyone’s willing to communicate with Harry about any topic — even despite his loved ones’ health issues! So, it really does seem like this feud is going to go on for a LONG time!

Over the years, the Suits alum has made her issues with the royals abundantly clear. Speaking with Oprah in 2021, she opened up about the racism and generally unfair treatment she faced. Earlier this month, during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, she spoke more about the suicidal thoughts she experienced after they left the UK. She said ominously she hadn’t even “scraped the surface” of her experience with the family, though she opted not to provide further details. Maybe because she was saving them for the book?

On Tuesday, an insider told Closer that following Harry’s wild success with his memoir Spare, Meghan may be following up with a tell-all of her own:

“The talk among their friends is that it’s time to take the gloves off and do away with the diplomacy. There’s so much demand for Meghan to speak out, whether that’s in the form of another sit-down interview or even her own memoir. She has the potential to make an absolute fortune and clear up a lot of questions.”

As we mentioned, Meghan spoke to Oprah about her issues with the royal fam, but she hasn’t ever put pen to paper on the subject. So why now? Well, she’s apparently done with the royal fam enough that she’s ready for scorched earth. The straw that broke the camel’s back? She’s reportedly pretty peeved she and her husband didn’t receive invites to the family’s annual summer gathering at Balmoral:

“It doesn’t exactly shock Harry and Meghan that they’re not invited considering they’re not even on speaking terms at this point, but it feels very much like a personal attack designed to hurt and embarrass them. It’s not just about pride or hurt feelings, there are very ugly repercussions for them when this constant narrative that they’re family outcasts keeps getting fed. It impacts their brand as well as their morale, and it has the potential to put them more at risk.”

The source added:

“They’re now being forced to figure out a strategy to fight back, and one option on the table is to go all-out with a big tell-all from Meghan where she completely lays out her side of the story.”

That would certainly be quite the attention grabber… And likely the LAST thing King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Catherine want. OH, and it might be a double-whammy, too. Because Harry reportedly is ready to go with more info for a second volume of Spare — which would pretty much be the nail in the coffin for any hopes of a royal mending. The insider dished:

“Another tell-all would cause so much trouble; this feud would go nuclear. No doubt the time will come down the line that they publicly address all of this. They’re both being very cautious about it all right now, but eventually Meghan is going to want to write her memoir, Harry is going to want to update Spare, and they are going to want to sit down and promote themselves on TV. They will not shy away from answering questions about the royals. For now, they’re biding their time.”

Yikes!!!

Talk of Meghan penning a memoir have been circulating for a while, with royal author Tom Quinn recently speculating:

“Meghan knows that a personal memoir of her time in the UK as a working royal would sell millions of copies and make her the sort of money she craves. All this fills Charles, William and Kate with horror.”

In his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, Robert Jobson explained how Kate Middleton has put herself and her family first when adjusting to life as a royal. Having been raised in a tight-knit family, the author said the 42-year-old “knows her own mind and even established some fundamental life rules that she would stick to when she joined ‘The Firm.'”

But really, it wasn’t until the anticipation of her second child, Princess Charlotte, that she decided to implement some of these “rules” into her new life — and she did just that by having her terms presented to Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III in early 2015 when she was pregnant with her daughter. OMG! That must’ve been intense!

It helps, though, that her husband Prince William was very supportive — and even delivered the news himself. The writer noted that the requests were “not [delivered] in some formal document, but by Prince William.” Whoa!

So what was she so determined to change?? Mostly, Kate was worried about her family life and wanted to make sure she could prioritize it — while slowly building up her career in the spotlight. William told his grandmother and father that his wife “wanted space to grow into her role and said she needed more time to adapt to the peculiarities of royal life,” the book elaborated:

“She was clear from the outset that she would not be pigeonholed into carrying out particular duties and insisted on having her full quota of maternity leave, away from the glare of the media and the public.”

All very reasonable! And yet she had BALLS for making demands to the top royals! It helps that she’d already tied the knot, of course! What were they gonna do? Force her to get a divorce and cause way more scandal for the family than they would ever want? Hell no! They obviously agreed! (That said, it’s unclear if they had any resistance to her requests.)

As for Kate, “Her priority, she emphasized, would always be her family.” To this day as she faces a cancer diagnosis, she has remained focused on her children, Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis, while also finding time to balance her personal life with royal work. Robert told People on Wednesday:

“She is doing things slowly and when she is ready. She isn’t being governed by it being a good picture opportunity. They aren’t worried about visibility — they are just going to do it, and that will be visible rather than the other way around. The health and the proper recovery is what is important.”

The family will head to their country home, Anmer Hall, where they can “escape” the spotlight over the summer, he continued:

“They escape there, and it is very much a private place. They can go out and ride their bikes with the children and not have anybody bothering them. That will be the priority. […] They can go out and enjoy the space and can breathe out.”

They’re also expected to travel to Balmoral Castle in Scotland which is the royal family’s traditional August getaway, “but not for very long,” the insider dished:

“Those traditions may fade— that’s where you may find that it is more for the King [Charles] and the Queen [Camilla] and the other members of the royal family. William has more of a free rein. They will go there, but it won’t necessarily be for a long period like it used to be with the late Queen [Elizabeth].”

Once again, they’re carving their own path and doing what’s best for them! This is likely more important now that Kate faces her health crisis. Robert added that she and her hubby “are living in a day-to-day basis, because no one really knows what’s around the corner” and that her diagnosis “shows that you can’t take anything for granted.” He mused:

“Both the Prince and Princess of Wales are acutely aware of that, and that’s why they are spending as much time as [they] can with their children, whilst they can. One day, they may not be able to do so—certainly William. Both are acutely aware of that.”

Right now, the parents’ biggest challenge “is to keep family life going while preparing George for his role without freaking out neither him nor Charlotte as to what that role is. It is quite a delicate balance. It’s a hard job to do that.”

But thanks to Kate’s upbringing, the kids are doing well, a source close the the royal household dished last month:

“Coming from a different background, she appreciates the importance of having family time. She wasn’t brought up in that aristocratic setting where you see the children for a short time each day.”

The confidant continued:

“Those children look pretty happy with life. A lot of it is the stabilizing normality Kate brings — and that’s how she grew up. William absolutely loves it.”

A source reiterated that the couple “consciously set out to achieve a sense of normality,” while a friend added:

“Royal families over the generations haven’t had the chance to get those foundations right, but they have.”

Royal life is not an easy thing to juggle! And yet, despite all she’s been through, Kate seems to manage it well. Love to know she has the courage to stand up for herself — and, more importantly, that the royal family actually listens to what she needs to succeed. If only Meghan Markle had received that same treatment…

As everyone knows, the 42-year-old was known to the world as Kate Middleton when her relationship with the heir to the throne first started when they were in college together in the early 2000s. After their 2011 wedding, she was named Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. But she didn’t really push hard for the public to call her Catherine until more recently when becoming the Princess of Wales.

But several years ago, it turns out she had a change of heart and decided to revert back to her full moniker in private — before she embarked on her more formal life. As you can imagine, though, given the optics, the timing of the request had her friends in a panic — because they thought she was about to get engaged! Classic!

In Robert Jobson‘s new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, out now, the author recalls the mother of three sending a “humorous email” to her inner circle informing them of the change. Citing a 2008 article by Sunday Express writer Adam Helliker, Jobson wrote:

“I hear that in the past few weeks, the former accessories buyer has quietly informed friends that she would like to drop the informal ‘Kate’ and in future wishes to be known by her full name: Catherine.”

It’s unclear if she just didn’t like being called Kate anymore or if “it was part of a bigger preparation for her formal public role as Prince William’s future wife.” Either way, the book noted that it appeared she “had a genuine desire to go by her full name.”

But instead of just going along with the name change like it was no big deal, her friends were totally sus over it. And they started essentially counting down the days until a proposal! The author dished:

“Inevitably all this led to a flurry of speculation about a potential royal title in the future.”

Hah! Ultimately, that wouldn’t come for another TWO YEARS when Willy finally popped the question in 2010. Guess this wasn’t totally about entering the royal family. In fact, at the time, King Charles III‘s communications secretary Paddy Harverson “flatly denied” the rumors.

Also, the monarch had issues with the name change!! In Spare, Prince Harry claimed that his father once asked his daughter-in-law to change the spelling of her name because he thought there were already too many royals with names beginning with “C.” That would be him and his wife Queen Camilla. The Duke of Sussex spilled the tea:

“This was because there were already two royal cyphers with the letter C in them — and they didn’t want another.”

Though it’s unclear exactly when this conversation took place, Harry recalled them suggesting she change it to “Katherine with a K,” adding:

“I turned to Willy, gave him a look that said, ‘You listening to this?’ His face was blank.”

Dang. It would’ve been WILD to make her change her name just so it wouldn’t be the same as her new relatives! Like what?? Talk about royals being spoiled! As Perezcious readers know, she ultimately kept the preferred spelling of her name and continues to be referred to as Kate by the public, though she and her husband use the formal name in official statements.

Love that such a minor change caused so much speculation among her friends! They must have been analyzing every little thing she and William did in anticipation of an engagement. Reactions?? Sound OFF (below)!

On Tuesday, royal expert and author Robert Jobson shared with Hello! Magazine that the Princess of Wales’ top priority has been her personal and family life amid her battle with cancer. Nothing else matters to her at this time! So, any problems happening during all this (like the continued feud involving her husband, Meghan Markle, and Prince Harry) are all on the back burner for Kate! Jobson explained:

“She’s very calm. She’s a person who wants to find solutions and rise above the noise and the drama, and I think, given what she’s gone through, you don’t want to waste any time on noise, on drama, when you’ve had anything to do with your health. You live day by day; you do the things you want to do.”

Even long before her cancer diagnosis, Princess Catherine made it clear that her kids — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — come first no matter what! Jobson shared with the outlet that Kate once informed the late Queen Elizabeth and King Charles that she would not be “rushed into doing things that she doesn’t necessarily want to do,” such as putting her royal duties over being a momma:

“That takes quite a lot of courage because you’re in a very alienated world. But I think she realized that she only has one shot at this. She’s got three young children, and they have to come first.”

With her kids still being so young, Jobson noted Catherine is just trying to take advantage of  “time she won’t get back” with them, especially once her responsibilities increase:

“The difference between her and other people is that in your career you may have different phases. With her career, it’s only going to get more and more official.”

Her cancer battle probably further cemented her decision to spend as much time with the kids as she could. It’s great Catherine can be with her children more than she most likely would, but the circumstances that gave her that opportunity are, of course, very sad. But we bet that despite what’s going on, she and her little ones are enjoying every single minute of their quality time together.
