It’s officially happening, y’all! A Britney Spears biopic is in the works!
On Thursday, the pop star took to X (Twitter) to tease a “secret project” she has in store with a major Hollywood producer. She wrote:
“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned”
Shortly after, Universal Pictures confirmed they landed the rights to her memoir, The Woman In Me, which they’re adapting for the big screen with Wicked director Jon M. Chu!

There weren’t too many other details revealed, but we think it’s safe to say Brit is in good hands with these creatives… Marc has produced such classics as Legally Blonde, La La Land, The Little Mermaid, and more — so we get why Britney says he’s done some of her faves! Jon M. Chu has directed Step Up 3D, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, In the Heights, and MANY more in addition to the two upcoming Wicked films… So we think it’s safe to say we should be prepared for some major dance scenes!

One detail TMZ was able to confirm was that the Lucky singer will have final say on casting. Inneresting… What will she look for?

Sydney is maybe a little old for the role at 26 — plus she’s SOOOO busy. But she’d be amazing at the more harrowing moments Britney has spoken about, like being hospitalized against her will.
Lily has already played a pop idol in The Idol, but that may actually dissuade her considering how that went…
This would be a HUGE role for the talented Millie to sink her teeth into. And she might be looking for something like this as Stranger Things is about to be over for good.
We’re sure Addison would love to sink her teeth into a star-making role like this! She can sing and dance — will her acting impress Britney??
Sabrina is the total package, but she’s also currently exploding as a pop star herself right now. Would she be interested in being someone else for a bit? (Hey, it worked for Jennifer Lopez and Selena…)
Like Sydney, she may have aged out of this role by now, but we can see why fans have been thinking of Lili for the role for a while now, especially after her role as a dancer in Hustlers.
The Canadian singer doesn’t quite have the acting resume as others on this list, but she does have the pop star part down!
The bona fide scream queen has a background in dance which would really serve her as Britney.
Another triple threat, the Descendants star is one of few stars who could convincingly play Britney… Though again, maybe aged out at 28?
Other celebs said to be featured heavily in the film — and therefore needing to be cast — include Jamie Lynn Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Seacrest, Kevin Federline, and of course Justin Timberlake.
