Christina Aguilera was a late bloomer — and that’s OK!
The longtime pop superstar burst onto the scene just before her 19th birthday with Genie In A Bottle — which hit the airwaves 24 years ago (!!!) in May of 1999. From there, she released a string of other adult-themed and sexually suggestive hits, including the super-sultry 2002 single Dirrty. But she wasn’t exactly living out the contents of those songs in her private life at the time!

The now-42-year-old pop star sat down with podcast host Alex Cooper for Wednesday’s brand-new episode of Call Her Daddy. The interview covered quite a bit of the New York native’s early career. And as we learned during the duo’s long chat, Christina actually lost her virginity way later than we would have guessed!!
When Cooper asked Aguilera about the sexy persona she’s carefully crafted over the years, the Stripped singer couldn’t deny there was something a bit humorous about being sexualized in public while being much slower to develop behind closed doors.
The mother of two explained:
“It’s so funny that I gave this persona because I probably was the last person to lose my virginity. It was something that was for me. I guess that’s why my messages went the way they did too because I owned it first, maybe.”
Cooper immediately picked up on that “last person to lose my virginity” remark and asked for more. Naturally!
The Staten Island-born star didn’t fully give in, unfortunately. Instead of divulging virginity details, Aguilera simply said this:
“It was later than you would think, given [I was] the girl that was doing Dirrty and all this stuff. It’s more of a funny thing looking back.”
Later than we think?! So how late was it?? Like we noted up top, Dirrty came out in 2002. Aguilera turned 22 years old late that year. Was it later than that?
No shade! Just being nosy! LOLz!

Aguilera did allude a little bit to a few early sexual experiences, though. Referencing how she had “certain dancers that were close” to her during early tours, the songstress said:
“I had certain dancers that were close. You’re traveling a lot and you have accessibility to only certain things. It is what it is… A lot of things where I’m like, ‘Maybe I should have realized, he wasn’t looking at me. He wasn’t interested in me. He was looking at him.’ A lot of things where I’m like, ‘Oh, sad!’ I feel bad for my younger self.”
There are two things she didn’t do, though. She didn’t connect romantically with many other high-profile men during the early peaks of her career — and she didn’t push a phony romance into the public eye for publicity’s sake. On why she chose the more authentic route, she explained:
“I didn’t really have time for that. I always went for things that I would feel safe about. If it’s not real to me and authentic, I can’t do it. I can’t force something as personal as that.”
The singer went on to add that she prefers “guy next door” types as opposed to A-listers or other celebrities. It’s good that she knows that about herself! Aguilera appears to have lived by that mantra for years, too. She’s been engaged to actor-slash-assistant director Matt Rutler since 2014. The pair keeps their relationship mostly private and very low-key. And for her, that works:
“My life is hectic enough, and this is a very narcissistic industry. My anxieties couldn’t maybe take somebody that did the exact same thing I did. I know how this goes. I’m too vulnerable for this. I’m too sensitive to be so paranoid.”
Makes sense!!
Oh, and one more thing. Cooper inquired about Aguilera’s on-and-off past public spats with other celebs. (Y’all know damn well who we’re talking about here!)
But without naming names, Christina deftly turned down the opportunity to feud. Instead, she chose to criticize fans and media members who continuously “poke” and “bait” her about them:
“I want peaceful energy, peaceful vibes. I don’t need to be talking about things that happened decades ago. Let’s grow up, let’s embrace. I just don’t have time for the petty bulls**t.”
Well that sounds healthy and honest! We love to see a powerful woman thriving!! What do U make of her virginity comments, tho, Perezcious readers?? Surprised?! How late do YOU think she meant? Post-college age? Or just later than all her friends??
