The Oscar winner stars in the upcoming movie Lee as real-life photographer Lee Miller, who worked as a war correspondent for Vogue during World War II. For the role, Kate told Harper’s Bazaar UK on Tuesday she stopped exercising before the film so her body would look “authentically soft” for the period. Sounds like she put a lot of work into this! Well, if not working out is work… Let’s say she put a lot of care into it. But not everyone got the memo!

While filming a scene where she had to wear a bikini, with her body on display, you won’t believe what a crew member dared to say to her! They actually urged the Titanic star to “sit up” straight to try to conceal her “belly rolls!” Yes, really! Kate recalled:

“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini… And one of the crew came up between takes and said: ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’”

What the f**k. However, the Oscar winner was not about covering up her stomach just so she looked more flattering on camera in their eyes! She fired back at the crew member:

“‘So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life!’ It was deliberate, you know?”

Good for Kate for sticking up for herself! But do we honestly expect anything less from The Holiday alum? She’s always advocated for body positivity, especially after years of criticism she faced as a young adult over her looks. We mean, she got bodyshamed over her nude scene in Titanic ffs, the movie where she may be the most beautiful anyone has ever been in a film!

All the “bullying” about her body did get to her at one point, but nowadays? She ignores it. When asked if she cared about looking “less-than-perfect” on camera, Kate said:

“The opposite. I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”

You may recall she had a similar issue just a couple years ago while filming Mare of Easttown. When she learned the director was trying to edit around her “bulgy bit of belly” in a sex scene — ostensibly for her vanity — she fought back and insisted it be seen!

And the desire for realness extends to the wrinkles on her face, too! No one will push her to get any cosmetic work! She continued:

“I think people know better than to say, ‘You might wanna do something about those wrinkles.’ I’m more comfortable in myself as each year passes. It enables me to allow the opinions of others to evaporate.”

What’s also helped her reach that point? Kate noted she feels women started to move into a positive and less judgmental direction when it comes to how they view their own bodies:

“I do feel a huge sense of relief that women are so much more accepting of themselves and refusing to be judged. Because I don’t know a single contemporary of mine who grew up seeing her mother looking in the mirror and saying: ‘I look nice!’ My mother never did: it was always, ‘Oh God, I don’t think I can wear this, do I look hippy, does my bum look big?’ We waste so much time being down on ourselves and I’m just not doing it ever again.”

Yes, Kate!!

“It’s weird because it’s not present in my mind anymore. It’s not like, ‘Oh, when am I going to get a new Titanic check?’ When it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, cool, an extra $100.’”

Dang!

He revealed that the checks used to be bigger around the height of the film’s home release, sometimes in the “low thousands.” And over the years he figures he’s made… $30,000!

OMFG! If an extra with such little to do in the movie has reaped that much, just imagine how much Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have made…

Speaking with Vogue for a new cover story, the 47-year-old actress opened up about her new biopic Lee, where she portrayed fashion model Elizabeth “Lee” Miller, who became an acclaimed war correspondent for the magazine during World War II. And according to Kate, it was not easy creating this movie as she faced struggles behind the scenes from day one.

During the first day on set, Kate had been rehearsing a scene where Elizabeth is running down the streets of Saint-Malo in order to dodge bombs and gunfire when she suddenly slipped and injured her back:

“I had three massive hematomas on my spine, huge. I could barely stand up.”

Ouch! Despite her injury, though, Kate did not want to delay the film. So she pushed through the pain and continued to work a very intense schedule, getting up before 4:00 a.m., doing hair and makeup at 5:00 a.m., and being on set no later than 7:00 a.m. Although Kate wasn’t giving up when it came to the movie, she was still unable to do certain everyday activities for filming. How so? The damage to her back prevented her from exercising for months. As Kate explained, “the Peloton ride and 10 minutes of f**king abs” stopped for a bit.

However, she was not letting her lack of working out stop her from baring it all on camera! Kate had to show off her body, including one scene where she recreated the famous photo Miller took of friends picnicking topless in France and another where she is in a bikini top. And no matter what anyone said on set, she refused to hide the “softest version” of her body:

“You know I had to be really f**king brave about letting my body be its softest version of itself and not hiding from that. And believe me, people amongst our own team would say, ‘You might just want to sit up a bit.’ And I’d go, Why? [Because of] the bit of flesh you can see? No, that’s the way it’s going to be!’”

Yes, gurl!

After years of “consistently” being told she “was the wrong shape” or “would have to settle for less” due to her body, Kate has learned to ignore the negative comments. In fact, she’s tuning out the hateful chatter in all aspects of her life as she has not even read a review of a project she’s done since she was 21! The Mare of Easttown alum told Vogue:

“I think it probably stems from having been subjected to the most awful scrutiny and judgment, and, actually, I would go so far as to say bullying, from mainstream media when I was in my 20s.”

Through this process of working on Lee, Kate explained she learned to let go even more:

“In a way it was weirdly good for me, to go f**k it: I’ve got to go easy on myself.”

“When I lost touch with Kate, it was more heartbreaking than some breakups that I’ve had. It was so painful, and it wasn’t like anything happened. It’s just she became a gigantic, international movie star, and she didn’t have a lot of time, and then, suddenly, she’d be in Los Angeles and not have time.”

Melanie insisted no one was to blame for the distance, noting that it “gradually happened” over time as friendships sometimes do:

“It happens in relationships. People kind of drift apart, but that was so painful for me.”

A children’s reporter for the German TV network ZDF named Martha went viral on social media for knocking her first EVER interview out of the park — with some gentle encouragement from the Titanic star. Sitting down with an Oscar winner for your first interview as a journalist has to be nerve-inducing, but luckily the actress made it easy with her genuine charm and warm smile.

Martha was interviewing Kate for her new movie Avatar: The Way of Water when she seemed nervous, to which the 47-year-old stopped the interview to speak to the young girl one-on-one. In the video posted to Twitter by Olivia Marks on Monday, the caption read:

“Kate Winslet reassuring this young girl that her interview will be amazing is the most precious thing I’ve ever seen”

In the video, Martha can be heard timidly revealing to the actress it was her first interview:

“Um, it’s my first time.”

And Kate had the SWEETEST response! Leaning forward to make eye contact with the young journalist, she said:

“This is your first time doing it? OK, well guess what? When we do this interview, it’s going to be the most amazing interview ever. And do you know why? Because we’ve decided that it’s going to be. So, we’ve decided right now, me and you, that this is going to be a really fantastic interview.”

Aww!

Continuing, The Reader star encouraged Martha to not be starstruck by her:

“You can ask me anything that you want, and you don’t have to be scared.”

Finishing up her speech, Winslet gave one last bit of encouragement to the little girl:

“Everything is going to be amazing. Ok? You’ve got this. Ok, let’s do it!”

James Cameron‘s Titanic is officially 25 years old. It premiered in theaters on December 19, 1997, and despite concerns it wouldn’t break even after an extensive 2.5 year production, the action romance epic went on to break MULTIPLE records!

With a production budget of $200 million, it was the most extravagant film to be made at that time. Cameron himself even WENT DOWN to the wreckage site of the RMS Titanic, 13,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic ocean, to get real footage for the disaster flick. It paid off, though. With average ticket prices at the time being around $6, Titanic went on to earn an initial worldwide gross of 1.84 BILLION DOLLARS! Yep, it was the first movie to ever reach billion status. Moviegoers loved watching Leo and Kate Winslet so much, many of them kept going back to watch it again and again. It was #1 at the box office every single week until April 1998, when it was finally dethroned by Lost In Space. Still, even without the top spot, fans were dedicated, keeping Jim’s passion project (LOLz) in the cinema all the way through October 1, 1998.

A true feat!!

On April 4, 2012, a 3D version was released, bringing its total gross to $2.195 billion. Fans were eager to go back and relive the sweeping storyline.

After the release of the film, Celine Dion‘s My Heart Will Go On quickly rose to #1 on the charts in over 25 countries, cementing its legend as the world’s top record of 1998. Composed by James Horner, the power ballad is one of the most popular singles of all time — the second best-selling physical single by a woman in history! It went on to win numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Original Song and a Grammy for Record of the Year. IT WAS ALMOST ROMEO + JULIET PART 2

Leonardo’s star became a supernova after Titanic, but he was already a Hollywood heartthrob thanks to 1996’s Romeo + Juliet. The Baz Luhrmann version of the William Shakespeare tragedy also starred Claire Danes, and according to her, she was wanted for the role of Rose! The Homeland actress revealed on a 2020 podcast episode of Armchair Expert that the studio had “strong interest” in her co-starring alongside Leonardo again. Ultimately, though, she felt she wasn’t ready to take on such a project, telling host Dax Shepard:

“I was really clear about it. I wasn’t conflicted. It was going to propel me to something I knew I didn’t have the resources to cope with. I knew I had to do a lot of foundation building.”

Obviously it all worked out for the best, as Claire went on to her own Emmy award winning success. Not only that, but the world got the gift that is Leo and Kate’s 25+ year friendship. The two became IRL best friends, and they even did another film together in 2008, Revolutionary Road.

When the Wolf of Wall Street actor finally won his Oscar for The Revenant in 2016, Kate was right there to cheer him on (3:54, below).

She would later tell The Guardian of their relationship:

ALTERNATE ENDING

In the final cut, old Rose (Gloria Stuart, RIP) decides to pay her final waking life respects to the ship of dreams. Still on the expedition yacht, she ventures out to the deck in her nightgown, and climbs up the rails just like her younger self did on Titanic 84 years prior. Under a sky full of stars, she looks down into the Atlantic waters, reflecting on what she’s been carrying with her all this time. The memories of her trauma are heavy, just like the famed Heart of the Ocean she pulls out of her pocket. Up to this point, the fate of the blue diamond was unknown to the audience. The film flashes back to young Rose having made it to New York City. She’s departed the RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued Titanic survivors in life boats, and she’s looking up at the Statue of Liberty — symbolizing how she’s not just found American freedom but her own, too. When asked her name, she doesn’t give her birth name of DeWitt Bukater, she declares herself “Dawson, Rose Dawson,” officially taking Jack’s last name as her own way of honoring him. Then we see it. We finally see it. Her hands are in her pocket, and she realizes something’s in them. She pulls this mysterious object out, and holy s**t, there it is. Cal (Billy Zane) had put it in his coat pocket earlier in the sinking, and later he put it on her to keep her warm, not realizing. (Now, how this necklace didn’t get lost under water from the time of the sinking until this point, we don’t know. But *movie magic* says it did, so..) Cut back to old Rose. She’s got the diamond in her hand, and just like the weight on her heart she’s been lugging all this time, she finally lets go of it.

In the alternate ending, however, Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton, RIP) finds Rose on the deck and tries to convince her NOT to lay the insanely expensive jewelry to rest at the site of the doomed ship. See for yourself (below):

Carolynne Hunter is a struggling mother just trying to find a way to accommodate her disabled daughter’s needs. Her family lives in public housing in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, where Carolynne’s daughter, 12-year-old Freya Hunter, requires a high amount of energy to power her oxygen, which she relies on due to a severe form of cerebral palsy.

Unfortunately, that’s gotten much more expensive lately. The surging energy prices in Scotland come as Europe shifts away from Russian energy following their invasion of Ukraine, leaving many people struggling to stay afloat. Hunter told the BBC last week: 

“My older daughter and I have historically lived in fuel poverty to keep Freya safe and comfortable making sure all her medical needs are being met whilst allowing me to keep my bills as low as possible.”

She added:

“I have no way of reducing the usage of energy in our home.”

Her local housing department estimated her electricity cost this year to be around £17,000 — that’s just over $20k in American dollars. The mother of two explained in a GoFundMe posed November 9:

“In March I was paying £225 ($265) a month, I struggled to pay that. Since April I have had £400 ($470) a month taken for energy costs. As of 20th Oct £505 ($593) is what I am being forced to pay. Help!”

Well, it would appear that an angel saw her plea and wanted to do just that! The BBC reports that Kate caught wind of the family’s crisis and donated the full £17,000 to help combat Freya’s rising energy costs. Carolynne told the outlet: 

“When I heard about the money I just burst into tears — I thought it wasn’t even real. I’m still thinking, is this real?”

As real as the Titanic star’s multiple Oscars! (Wait, really? Only ONE?? Huh…) Anyway, this comes as a HUGE relief to Carolynne, as she noted:

“Health & Social Care and Government Public Health have not provided me with a contingency plan to keep Freya safe at home should these power outages happen.”

It warms our hearts and restores our faith in humanity a bit to see such a kind gesture! Gwyneth Paltrow is almost famous for recommending ridiculously expensive products you don’t need. Her lifestyle brand Goop has made headlines for it — remember her $2.6 million holiday gift guide? — so we couldn’t help but be a little surprised the actress swears by Weleda‘s Skin Food! The $18.99 lotion (available HERE) can be used on face and body, with Paltrow explaining in a Vogue video:

“People always ask me, “if I want something that’s a clean, nontoxic product that really works that I wanna buy at the drugstore, what should I get?” And I always say Weleda Skin Food. They make this super rich fantastic moisturizer.”

In the same clip, the actress touted more luxe faves, like celeb makeup artist Jillian Dempsey‘s “hydrating eye pads” ($75, HERE) and Gold Bar ($195, HERE):

“I don’t do this every day. This is like special occasions, say you’re doing a photo shoot or you’re on a really important Zoom or you had a bit of a rough night… Sometimes I walk around the house with these on. My kids make fun of me. What else is new? While I’m letting them soak in, and doing email or whatever, I get the Jillian Dempsey, also from her, sculpting gold bar thingy.”

Hailey Bieber has been so open about her skin struggles, and how far she’s come to be confident with her bare face. In an April video for her YouTube channel, the model shared her go-tos, like gushing about just how much she loves Aquaphor‘s lip balm at night:

“Something I legitimately cannot go to bed without doing is lip balm. I hate chapped lips; I hate when they feel dry; it’s truly one of my biggest pet peeves. My go-to is Aquaphor. I think it’s the best lip balm.”

She continued:

Jessica Alba loves to give us skin envy, and after hearing her nighttime skincare routine, we have to admit we’re a bit jealous of her regimen. Apparently Gwynnie isn’t the only one with expensive taste!

The Honest Beauty founder, who made another name for herself with the affordable line (HERE), treats her skin to a nighttime facial featuring pretty pricey products. But even the 40-year-old isn’t immune to sticker shock. Preaching about Comfort Zone‘s Sublime Skin Eye Patch ($60 for six patches HERE), she confessed in a video for Harper’s Bazaar:

“My makeup artist discovered this amazing brand. And literally, my eyes react to so many things and these are the only patches that I can use that I haven’t had a reaction to. I wish they were cheaper.”

As you know, the actors have been besties ever since they starred as Rose and Jack in the heartbreaking classic Titanic more than 24 years ago. However, the 46-year-old star revealed that she has not actually seen DiCaprio since before the coronavirus pandemic began. So when the pair were finally able to reunite for the first time in three years, things understandably got emotional between the pals. 

In an interview with The Guardian published on Thursday, Winslet confessed that she “couldn’t stop crying” when she finally saw The Wolf of Wall Street lead in Los Angeles, saying: 

​​“I’ve known him for half my life! It’s not as if I’ve found myself in New York or he’s been in London and there’s been a chance to have dinner or grab a coffee and a catch-up. We haven’t been able to leave our countries. Like so many friendships globally, we’ve missed each other because of COVID. He’s my friend, my really close friend. We’re bonded for life.”

Aww!! As we mentioned before, Kate and Leo became one of the most iconic friend duos in Hollywood after filming the James Cameron-directed blockbuster in 1997. They later teamed up again in 2008 for the film Revolutionary Road, where they played a married couple struggling with their relationship. But reflecting on their first movie together, Winslet also confessed that working on the film “wasn’t pleasant” for either of them at the time. Yikes! She explained:

“We were all in it together. Though he had way more days off than I ever bloody did. I guess I was raised to be grateful and just get on with it. I didn’t feel it was my right to be miserable, and if I was miserable I certainly would not have let a journalist know. There is no way I would have let that slip!”

Well, on the bright side, the pair at least got a lifelong bond and immediate launch into stardom from the ordeal!

As you may know, this is not the first time that the Mare of Easttown actress has opened up about their friendship or talked about their Titanic days over the years. Speaking with Glamour UK in 2017, Winslet gushed about an adorable aspect of their relationship, sharing:

“You don’t even want to know the last conversation we had, because it was so funny and made me laugh so much. We found ourselves saying to each other, ‘Can you imagine if the world really knew the stupid things we say?’ I’m not going to tell you what we actually talk about, but yeah, we’re very, very close. Sometimes we do quote the odd Titanic line back and forth to each other, because only we can, and we find it really funny.”

Can you imagine the banter, LOLz! Glad to see that Kate and Leo were able to get together once again!
