While chatting with Michelle Yeoh for Interview magazine about her new film The Substance, the pair opened up about the Hollywood beauty standards. The 61-year-old actress praised the Everything Everywhere All at Once for her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards, saying it reminded her that “we can define where we want it to go and who we are.” She continued:

“We don’t have to fight against that, we just have to believe that something else is possible. To me, what’s exciting is, in the film, I’m representing a past ideal and not what my present is.”

Looking back, Demi noted she specifically struggled with her place in the business after working on the Charlie’s Angels 2003 sequel — all because of the chatter about her appearance. She called out one scene in particular, in which she meets Cameron Diaz’s character at a beach during a stakeout while wearing a black bikini. Watch (below):

The scene was instantly iconic as Demi showed everyone she still looked AMAZING! Unfortunately the reaction was the opposite of what it should have been. Instead of realizing older women could still be taking on bombshell or femme fatale roles, folks in Hollywood got confused about what to do with her!

Demi, who was 40 during filming, felt “there didn’t seem to be a place for” her in Hollywood after the “talk about” her looks. She told Michelle:

“What’s interesting is I felt it more when I hit my forties. I had done Charlie’s Angels, and there was a lot of conversation around this scene in a bikini, and it was all very heightened, a lot of talk about how I looked. And then I found that there didn’t seem to be a place for me. I didn’t feel like I didn’t belong. It’s more like I felt that feeling of, I’m not 20, I’m not 30, but I wasn’t yet what they perceived as a mother.”

At that time, Demi really started to question where she “fit in”:

“It was a time that felt, not dead, but flat.”

Like so many actresses, Michelle sadly understood the Ghost star’s experience. Unfortunately, there are still too many men — both on the fan side AND producers — who are incredibly harsh when it comes to a woman’s aging looks. And as she pointed out, the business is so “cruel” to women as they age, saying:

“Hollywood is cruel to women of that age, where you don’t find the scripts or the characters that resonate with you anymore. It’s either, you are the mother or you’re old enough not to be sexy in their eyes. It’s like, why can’t a 45-year-old, a 50-year-old, or 60-year-old, be sexy?”

Exactly!

On Instagram Thursday, the 36-year-old daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore confirmed the sad news — she and her baby daddy Derek Richard Thomas have split up.

During an “uncensored” AMA on her Stories, one of her fans asked if she and Derek were still seeing each other, and she replied no, she’s been “single momming it”:

“Nope I am single momming it and co-parenting. I’m so grateful for Lou. She is the best thing in my life and I am forever grateful I was able to have the time in that relationship for her to come into my life.”

It’s unclear when Rumer and Derek started dating, but they announced their pregnancy with their daughter Louetta Isley Thomas Willis just a few months after they debuted their relationship. But even with things not working out with the Vista Kicks musician, the actress isn’t shutting down the idea of more kids.

When someone else on her IG asked if she wanted more children, she said she wanted “6 or 7”. In another Story post, she even revealed she’d totally have kids as a single mom:

“Definitely [would have more kids as a single mom] because having siblings is one of the best parts of my entire life … Mabel and Evelyn are my best friends and favorite people and I want that for Lou. So open to whatever that looks like in the future”

We’re glad to see she’s keeping her positivity and not letting a breakup stop her from chasing her dreams.

Earlier this week, Scout Willis, 33, posted a wholesome video on Instagram in which she dances to her new song Over and Over alongside her sisters, Tallulah, 30, and Rumer, 35, her one-year-old niece Louetta, mom Demi Moore, and some friends. She captioned the post:

“I must be God’s favorite nepo baby to have a family who supports me this much If they can learn it so can you babe”

But despite the wholesomeness of the video — its jab at haters must have had an effect. Some trolls took to the comments to talk about how “unattractive” the three sisters are. We wish we were joking!

One commenter wrote, “It’s like Bruce Willis cloned himself three times lol,” while another added:

In response, Tallulah took to her own social media account to clap back at the hate! In a since-deleted post, she shared screenshots of the comments alongside some pointed words:

What a delight to share — people always seemed shocked when we share how cruel and mean the comments on us have been our whole lives, so it’s important to me to call out this person to highlight an example of just regular Tuesday c**tyness.”

On Tuesday, insiders told the outlet the 61-year-old and the 34-year-old met at the Cannes Film Festival last month and have been enjoying each other’s company since!  They dished:

“Demi and Joe have struck up a friendship. They have mutual friends and they bonded.”

Apparently, the Jonas Brothers band member is friends with both Demi’s stylist Brad Goreski and manager Jason Weinberg.

Okayyy, this is kind of EVERYTHING! Except, don’t get too excited, because while the first source insisted things were heading in a romantic route for the two, a second insider shut down the rumors.

The Ghost star is getting a lot of buzz already for a new horror film premiering at Cannes. But not just for her killer performance!

In The Substance, Demi plays an actress who takes something that gives her a “younger, better version of herself” played by Margaret Qualley. And at one point in the film, Cannes audiences were surprised to see, Demi serves full frontal! At 61 years old, she gets completely nude for the film! Wow!

When asked about working the jaw-dropping scenes with director Coralie Fargeat (her first movie since 2017’s excellent Revenge) on Monday, Demi explained how getting to a place she could be comfortable baring it all was all about being on the same page before shooting:

“Going into it, it was really spelled out, the level of vulnerability and rawness that was really required to tell the story. And it was a very vulnerable experience and just required, I think, going into it with a lot of sensitivity and a lot of conversation about what we were trying to accomplish and how we were going to approach it. And I think finding that common ground of mutual trust.”

She said it helped a great deal that she had “someone who was a great partner who I felt very safe with” in co-star Margaret Qualley. She said the two shared “a lot of levity in those moments at how absurd those certain situations were.” She also drew a big laugh from the gathered reporters when she alluded to certain scenes in the film:

“We obviously were quite close in certain moments… naked…”

Um… do tell! Damn, we need to see this movie!

Demi concluded:

“Ultimately, it’s just about direct and clear communication and mutual trust.”
