As you’ve probably heard, romance rumors started circulating about the two over the weekend. Page Six reported the pair were seen together at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel and elsewhere in Los Angeles lately. Multiple sources even confirmed they’ve been “spending time together.” It’s unclear if things are romantic; we’re hearing conflicting reports.

However, we soon heard one thing that made all this a lot more intriguing — they didn’t just meet for the first time. No, they go way back — long before the Jennifer Lopez marriage! A source said Kick and Ben “had a fling before he got back together with JLo.” Whoa! However, they claimed the two ended things because “she was too young and not ready for anything serious.”

But there may have been something else besides her age that came between them — Ana de Armas! That’s right, a new source says this little… whatever-it-was… happened right before THAT relationship!

The Justice League star began dating Ana in March 2020 after meeting on the set of their ill-fated erotic thriller Deep Water in New Orleans. Things between them got serious fast as she moved in with him during the pandemic. They became tabloid fodder, regularly captured by the paps going for walks together — something many believe were staged! — and posting cute pics on social media.

Their relationship didn’t even make it to the one-year mark. She reportedly dumped him by January 2021! A few short months after that, he rekindled things with J.Lo. And the rest is history!

However, a lost chapter in the history of Ben’s heart… before Ana, there apparently was Kick! A Hollywood source told Page Six on Tuesday:

“Their friendship has been going on for a while, even before Ana. When Ben started seeing Ana in 2020 and chose to quarantine with her during Covid, Kick was less than thrilled.”

Damn! They make it sound like they were on their way to something, even if it wasn’t full-on romance yet. And Ben went off and made a movie with an international sex symbol and forgot all about her! OUCH!

The rejection must have stung for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s daughter — though not enough to stop her from going back to him four years later?

When Ben’s marriage with Jennifer came crashing down earlier this year, he reportedly reconnected with Kick, and they began a friendship again. Whether it’s anything more is up for debate. As speculation about Ben and Kick went wild online, multiple insiders said the pair are at least friendly with each other right now, as they are “hanging with each other” and “getting to know each other.” Even if they aren’t dating, there’s potential for more, right? And let’s be real here, Ben has a habit of going back to exes! Would this really surprise anyone if they hooked up, broke up, and later rekindled their romance?

Plus, it sounds like being a part of the Kennedy fam is a “dream” for Ben. A Hollywood source who has worked with the Argo star told Page Six:

“Affleck would love nothing more than to be part of the Kennedy clan. It’s a dream for any Boston guy … I think he would rather have that than a billion-dollar, red-carpet glam life with J. Lo.”

Ouch! What a blow for Jenny from the Block! However, a spokesperson insisted — once again — the reports are simply “not true.” Hmm. They said:

“This is not true. They are not hanging out.”

His rep really wants us all to believe nothing is going on between them! That they don’t even know one another! Ana de Armas hosted this new ep, and Karol G was the musical guest, but the social push stole the show! The inspiring message came during the final moments of the Weekend Update segment. And fans online are still talking about how heartening it was to see SNL make such a vocal stand for support!

Segment co-anchor Michael Che kicked off the moment by addressing the Republican-led state legislatures in places like Florida, Kansas, and Missouri which have very heavily restricted gender-affirming care for transgender children. Taking on a serious tone, the SNL star said:

“Since the start of this year, over 400 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced across the country, many of which directly target trans youth. Here to talk about it is someone with their own introduction.”

Then, SNL‘s “first non-binary cast member” came down from the sky — literally!!

Featured player Molly Kearney was slowly swung down from the ceiling while tethered to ropes and wearing a bright purple suit! When the star got down to the set, they delivered this quip:

“This harness is pretty tight and my groin area is beefed. I have been hung up on my genitals for far too long, and I’m starting to feel like a freaking Republican lawmaker.”

And Kearny continued, cracking a joke about their pronouns and relaying it back to trans rights:

“At one point I heard a crew guy say, ‘is she gonna die up there?’ And then another crew guy was like, ‘you mean, are they gonna die up there?’ And then they both walked away and didn’t help which feels a lot how trans people are being treated right now.”

LOLz!

When Che asked about how “14 states have passed bills” limiting healthcare for trans youth, Kearney turned serious:

“Restricting healthcare for kids — for some reason there’s something about the word trans that makes people forget the word ‘kids.’ If you don’t care about trans kids’ lives, it means you don’t care about friggin’ kids lives! … People need to wake up. We are making trans kids grow up too fast. We should be keeping them safe and we need to lift them up.”

By the end, Kearney was pulled back up into the sky high above the Weekend Update set. But they made sure to get in one final dig before being swooped away forever:

“What’s happening, kids, is wrong, and you don’t need to be scared. Our job is to protect you, and your job is to focus on being a kid. It’s kind of like me flying in the SNL sky: there are a bunch of dudes asking you about your crotch, and controlling when and where you’re allowed to pee. But if you just hang on, you’ll just look up and you’ll realize you’re flying, kid!”

Love that!

We need more of that inspiring and optimistic talk in society!! Especially for at-risk youth!

Back in January a couple big fans of the Knives Out star filed what seemed like a bonkers lawsuit. Basically they complained that they rented the movie Yesterday — you know, the one about the only guy who remembers The Beatles — specifically because they saw her in the trailer.

She’s barely in there, but she’s there. Apparently she was in an early cut of the movie, but her scenes got removed because test audiences didn’t want the lead to have another potential love interest besides Lily James.

The important part here is that these fans were so annoyed they watched this movie for nuthin’ — meaning with no sightings of Ana — they sued Universal Pictures!

Universal tried to get the wild action thrown out, arguing trailers are basically short films crafted to give audiences a feel for a movie. Plenty use footage that isn’t in the film itself. They cited Jurassic Park as a famous example of a trailer that used footage that wasn’t in the movie. It’s pretty common. They argued since it’s “artistic” expression, it should be classified as “non-commercial” work — and protected under the First Amendment.

OK, so here’s the wild part… this federal judge agreed with the fans!

US District Judge Stephen Wilson ruled on Wednesday that trailers ARE commercial speech — and therefore subject to the California False Advertising Law. He declared:

“Universal is correct that trailers involve some creativity and editorial discretion, but this creativity does not outweigh the commercial nature of a trailer. At its core, a trailer is an advertisement designed to sell a movie by providing consumers with a preview of the movie.”

We mean… he’s not wrong. But what does this mean for trailers in the future?

They’ve never been held to false advertising standards before. Would Jurassic Park be liable? How about Avengers: Infinity War, which famously showed scene of a huge teamup of all the Avengers that never happened (see above, inset)? Marvel Studios are particularly secretive and show fake things all the time. Universal’s legal team said this precedent would be dangerous to all future trailers:

“Under Plaintiffs’ reasoning, a trailer would be stripped of full First Amendment protection and subject to burdensome litigation anytime a viewer claimed to be disappointed with whether and how much of any person or scene they saw in the trailer was in the final film; with whether the movie fit into the kind of genre they claimed to expect; or any of an unlimited number of disappointments a viewer could claim.”

Ooh, that’s a tough one. While the judge noted false advertising laws only apply when a “significant portion” of “reasonable consumers” could be fooled, that’s a question that would be answered in court. What’s stopping the lawsuits from coming, whether they’re successful or not? Hmm…

In this case, Judge Wilson’s ruling says it was reasonable to assume Ana de Armas was in the movie. But how many other trailers would this apply to? Scenes get cut all the time!

As you may have seen, the new movie Blonde starring Ana de Armas dropped on Netflix Wednesday, and many people have been less than thrilled with the new film. Viewers have been leaving their reviews on social media, calling it “cruel,” “sexiest,” and even one of the worst first films they have seen — to the point where many could not make it past the first 20 minutes. That is pretty bad! And now, someone else has put their two cents in about the Andrew Dominik-directed movie. Who is that you may ask? Emily Ratajkowski.

After seeing the online chatter about Blonde, the 32-year-old model took to TikTok on Friday to slam the new biopic – which she has yet to watch – and accused it of “fetishizing female pain.” She explained:

“I’m not surprised to hear that it’s yet another movie fetishizing female pain, even in death. We love to fetishize female pain. Look at Amy Winehouse. Look at Britney Spears. Look at the way we obsess over [Princess] Diana’s death. The way we obsess over dead girls and serial killers. Watch any CSI episode, and it’s like this crazy fetishization of female pain and death.”

Emily went on to confess that “as women – I mean, I can say for myself for sure – but I’ve learned how to fetishize my own pain and my own hurt in my life, so that it feels like something that can be tended to that’s kind of sexy” to be a “f**ked up girl.” Her solution? She said:

“I think we do that in many, many different ways. But I want that to change. So I have a proposal. I think we all need to be a little more pissed off. 2022, baby, is my bitch era. I think we should all be in our bitch era.”

The Gone Girl actress also noted she will “be pissed off” when she finally watches Blonde, calling the mood “nothing new.” She then concluded, saying:

“I’m just gonna get angry.”

The Blonde reviews are in… and they are incredibly negative!

The new Marilyn Monroe biopic starring Ana de Armas hit Netflix on Wednesday, and while it skyrocketed to the top of the streamer’s top 10 list, viewers have been left incredibly disappointed by the nearly three-hour long film! While the movie was met with a 14-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month and critics have pretty much universally praised the leading lady’s performance (despite previous casting backlash), at-home reviewers of all kinds now think the movie is “cruel,” “sexist,” and one of the WORST films they’ve ever pressed play on! Yikes!

It seemed so promising, but not anymore!

Twitter has been filled with reactions from those who couldn’t “stomach” watching more than 20 minutes of the movie. Uhhh, turning off a movie that early is a terrible sign!! Users took to social media to hash out their frustration – and send a warning to other potential viewers — writing:

“Tried to watch @netflix Blonde. Couldn’t stomach more than about 20 minutes of the nearly 3 hours length. That 20 minutes was nothing but cruel and heartbreaking. Absolutely unwatchable.”

“I watched the first 20 minutes of #blonde and then immediately had to check twitter to see if I was missing something or if other people were as disgusted as I am. I feel vindicated.”

“Nah… the beginning of this Blonde movie not for the faint of heart. I’m about to turn it off in the first 15 minutes.”

Whoa…

Not good! So, what has fans so disgusted? Unfortunately, there are a LOT of reasons! But most broadly, Marilyn’s supporters are upset to see her story overshadowed by the abuse she went through — and are calling out director Andrew Dominik for his “misogynistic” take on her story. Some argued:

“The fact people are going to watch @netflix’s #Blonde and think it’s even REMOTELY accurate really boils my blood. The director should never ever work again, he literally thinks she was a w***e, that all women are w***es, he doesn’t even like her movies. He’s a b*****d.”

“F**k Andrew Dominik and the garbage movie he’s trying to sell as a Marilyn biopic. All he’s doing is dehumanizing a very real and complex person. Because she has no living relatives, there’s no one to speak up on her behalf. #Blonde is disgusting and a bad work of fiction.”

“#Blonde is an exploitative, misogynistic, borderline torture film that berates an already tragic figure. De Armas is good but the cruelty behind the made up narrative and the unfocused direction takes away from her presence. This was an awful experience. Painful to watch.”

For some context, earlier this week, Andrew was asked by BFI’s Sight and Sound Magazine to explain why viewers were not getting to see the many positive aspects of the Some Like It Hot star’s life on screen — such as when she formed her own production company or was involved in political activism. His response? He didn’t think any of that mattered since he wanted to make a movie “about a person who is going to be killing themselves.” Oof. Read his full response (below).

This disappointed chatter isn’t just coming from everyday film lovers. Film critics have also slammed the flick, such as The New York Times‘ Manohla Dargis, who said:

“Given all the indignities and horrors that Marilyn Monroe endured during her 36 years, it is a relief that she didn’t have to suffer through the vulgarities of Blonde, the latest necrophiliac entertainment to exploit her.”

Blonde seems to be getting blasted by most reviews since it only has a 45% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but, surprisingly, there have been some people who enjoyed the film, including Vogue, which thinks the flick might be considered a “masterpiece” down the line. In an interview with AnOther on Tuesday, Ana revealed she and the cast respectfully asked the late actress for permission to tell her life story through the new Netflix film:

“We got this big card and everyone in the crew wrote a message to her. Then we went to the cemetery and put it on her grave. We were asking for permission in a way.”

The 34-year-old says she and the whole crew understood how important the movie was — they weren’t just telling the story of Marilyn the icon, they were telling the story of Norma Jeane, a real person:

“Everyone felt a huge responsibility, and we were very aware of the side of the story we were going to tell — the story of Norma Jeane, the person behind this character, Marilyn Monroe. Who was she really?”

Apparently Monroe’s spirit got the memo and was okay with production! Earlier this month, Ana described how she believed the set of the controversial film was haunted by The Seven Year Itch actress’ ghost:

She was with me and it was beautiful… Being in the same places that she was, filming in her house, it was a very strong sensation there was something in the air and I think she was approving of what we were doing.”

Blonde also had its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival this week, and with it came a rather eventful press conference. No, there weren’t any cast members who spat on one another, but there was a g-g-g-ghost story! Yes, really!

The controversial biopic — which premieres on Netflix next Friday, September 16 — tells the story of Marilyn Monroe‘s rise and tragic fall. And it doesn’t pull any punches. Based on the Joyce Carol Oates book of the same name, Blonde was branded with a rare NC-17 rating, reportedly due to sexually explicit scenes and violence. Eesh.

In order to really get into the right place to film, they literally got into the right place! The actual rooms Marilyn lived — and died in!!

Director Andrew Dominik told reporters they filmed in both the apartment where the future movie star — then known as Norma Jeane — lived with her mentally ill mother AND in the room where she died. Not only that, they began filming on August 4 of last year, the anniversary of Marilyn’s death.

Whether acting out her life in the same spaces she lived in was tempting fate or something else, who are we to say? But for star Ana de Armas, it really did bring the spirit of Marilyn out of hiding. She said they could all feel the star’s ghost haunting the set! The Knives Out alum told reporters:

“I truly believe that she was very close to us. She was with us”

She added:

“She was all I thought about, she was all I dreamed about, she was all I could talk about. Sorry, WHAT?! Like a straight up poltergeist?? Yowza! Ana offered:

“Maybe this sounds very mystical, but it is true. We all felt it.”

Dominik agreed they could all feel it:

“It definitely took on elements of being like a seance.”

Like we said, the movie about the movie sounds pretty damn intriguing, too, right? The ghost of a movie star haunting her own biopic? We’d watch that!

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a celebrity giving approval of a movie about them. Just ask Kristen Stewart!
