The mom of five stopped by Brian’s Oldish podcast on Monday, and the two really dove into the 18-year period between when Beverly Hills, 90210 wrapped and when they reconnected. Such a long hiatus for a friendship! We’re glad they reconnected before it was too late…

Thinking back to one of their final conversations around 2000 when the show ended, Tori explained:

“I remember our last conversation and the last thing we said to each other before those 18 years. I was crying. I remember crying that we were going to lose touch because we were so close. It was almost like going through a divorce or something.”

To Brian, the show ending didn’t mean they had to sever ties. But, amid her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and former co-star Vincent Young, he felt Tori withdrew:

“What I remember is going by Vincent’s house to see you multiple days after we wrapped and trying to keep a connection going. But it got to the point where I just never got that from you.”

And that’s not the extent of it! Years later during a “90210 DVD release party,” the distance continued as they were both with their respective partners at the time — Dean McDermott and Megan Fox:

“You were married to Dean and I was with Megan when we were still just dating — you guys got there and you never said hello to me once. I just kept missing you guys and then you were gone.”

Hmm. Is he implying their significant others didn’t want them hanging out either? Just how close were they?? Well, they dated in real life earlier in 90210’s run and Tori has been very vocal about her feelings toward BAG. So we can understand exes being a little wary…

Unfortunately neither reached out, so each felt the cold shoulder. Brian explained:

“It was just this thing of like, ‘She just doesn’t want to be my friend.’ I genuinely felt that way. I tried to visit you and I would call you. When that wasn’t reciprocated and so I gave up. I didn’t know what was going on in your life.”

Yikes! But it seems the distance predated Dean and Megan. We mentioned the Vincent Young of it all. And Tori squarely blames that relationship for her losing touch:

“On my part, I lost myself in that relationship [with Vincent] again as I had done previously in relationships. That relationship was not a good relationship for me and toward the end I got wrapped up and things weren’t good.”

And she wasn’t the only one who she felt was consumed by love! Tori said Brian’s relationship with ex Vanessa Marcil was a major part of why she took a step back from their friendship:

“That relationship was frustrating to see from a friend’s perspective who loves someone so much. To see what is going on and see how your friend is treated and not be OK with it.”

Shots fired! She continued that she knew she couldn’t step in:

“But also knowing that you can’t really say anything because the person has to go through their own experience and go on their journey.”

Tori added:

“I shied away from you because you weren’t a fan of [my] relationship [with Vincent]. You had a good working relationship with Vincent but I don’t think you felt like our personal relationship was something that was correct for me. My process was different and I would shy away from those that would really fight for me. I never stopped thinking about you and never stopped wanting to reach out and reconnect.”

Brian responded:

“I still showed up. I had come to terms with knowing that wasn’t a good relationship but you are my sister so there is no cut-off.”

So was it how they felt about each other’s partners? Or how the partners felt about their history and vibe together? Hmm…

But Grant Show is the first to admit when he guest-starred as a love interest for a high schooler on Beverly Hills 90210, it was “creepy”!

On this week’s premiere episode of Still The Place, a Melrose Place rewatch podcast, Grant — who played hothead hunk Jake Hanson on the primetime soap — came on to discuss the season 1 arc AND his three episodes playing the character on 90210:

“They cast me for Melrose Place knowing that they were going to put that character on 90210 sort of to springboard Melrose Place.”

The issue? Jake came in as a handyman hired by Kelly Taylor’s family — he was an adult man of 25 years old. And Kelly was a high school teen. So when sparks flew and they eventually shared a kiss when Jennie Garth appeared on the first handful of episodes of Melrose Place, it was… problematic! Show admits now:

“[It] what would now be illegal and, like, [part of the] Me Too [movement]. I think we only kissed, but still, you know, not good.”

Though he noted:

“How odd is it that we are more, sort of, prudish now than 30 years ago?”

Well, there’s prudish, which is definitely a thing, and then there’s just no longer being accepting of predatory relationships being depicted as cute or, heaven forbid, steamy.

Hilariously, Show made sure to point out there was nothing inappropriate happening in real life as actress Jennie Garth was 18 years old at the time to his IRL 25! He noted they were “relatively contemporaries” as actors and “actually both adults”:

“That’s not that crazy in real life [but] it’s knowing that it’s high school. Now, you put it in those terms [of the age gap], that’s creepy.”

That’s probably why, the now-62-year-old guesses, he didn’t see anything wrong with it when they were filming the episodes. But it actually didn’t take long for him to get the high school context and think differently:

“She was a grown-up, professional actress. I didn’t really think much of it at the time we were shooting. When I watched it, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, look at that.’… It’s different.”

Jennie herself weighed in on the onscreen romance just a few days earlier when the 9021OMG podcast welcomed Still The Place hosts Laura Leighton, Courtney Thorne-Smith, and Daphne Zuniga in advance of their new show. She remarked to them how her Jake storyline was “creepy now that we look back at it.”

The 51-year-old television star spoke about Shannen on the latest episode of her misSPELLING podcast this week. During the pod, Tori revealed those initial painful moments when she first learned that Doherty had died at 53 after a long and brave battle with cancer. And since the two shared so much time together as younger women starring on Beverly Hills, 90210, Shannen’s death was particularly painful for Tori.

Recalling where she was at the exact moment when she heard her friend of more than three decades had passed, Tori explained that it all came through at around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, July 14. Calling the news “really tough” to find out, Spelling said that she was snuggling in bed with two of her kids when her phone started to buzz repeatedly:

“I knew immediately. I was like, ‘oh my god, somebody’s passed. Somebody important has died.’ And I took that moment not to go on social media. I didn’t call anyone back. I wanted to gather the details for myself so I could see how I wanted to process it before being overwhelmed by voices and text and emails.”

What a horrible sinking feeling that must have been — knowing something was terribly wrong before knowing what the actual issue was. Ugh.

After finally getting up the courage to Google it, Spelling quickly found news of Doherty’s death. Recalling how upset she felt at Shannen’s untimely passing, Tori said:

“I saw that Shannen had passed on Saturday night, and it was shocking, and I think the first thing I felt was madness. Is madness the word? I felt mad. I felt mad for the life that wouldn’t continue, the life that had so much to offer, not just herself but everybody around here.”

So sad…

Dean McDermott‘s ex did take some time to think up happier memories, too, though. Tori — who played Donna Martin on the hit 90210 series from 1990 through 2000 opposite Doherty’s mainstay character Brenda Walsh — revealed on the podcast how welcoming Shannen had been on set. Tori, of course, was the daughter of Aaron Spelling, the now-deceased producer of the show. And naturally, she was fearful that her new co-stars wouldn’t react so well to her presence. But Shannen and Brian Austin Green made sure Tori was welcomed:

“I think Shannen and Brian were the first people that I met on set, and they were really really welcoming. And Shannen has that smile, that smile that can light up the room. There was so much joy behind that smile. And she immediately took me under her wing. She gave me a big hug, walked me around, took me into the makeup trailer.”

Wow!

Using that warm memory to think about the late actress’ legacy, Tori concluded:

“I’ve really been going back in time privately and thinking, you know, about the enormous effect that Shannen had, not just on a generation, generations to come and to come. She will live on in her work and in the people that loved her and the things she stood for… I just want to thank Shan for being that beacon in my life. I have promised to carry the torch.”

What a powerful thing to share. We continue to send love and light to Tori and all of Shannen’s co-stars, friends, family members, and loved ones in these difficult weeks spent mourning her untimely passing.

But one person it hit harder than most? Jennie Garth!

The Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars weren’t the best of friends. In fact, for many years they had a rather bitter, if inert, feud going. Thankfully they mostly patched things up towards the end, with Shannen saying earlier this year that they’re “all good now.” (Though not good enough to drop the ban from Jennie going to her funeral, apparently!)

The issue wasn’t that Shannen was Jennie’s BFF. It was the fact she was her colleague. Her contemporary. Hell, they’re almost exactly the same age! So her passing scared the hell out of Jennie! And she wasn’t even the first of their crew to die. Luke Perry died after a stroke at 52, just five years back. Jennie is 52 now.

Speaking candidly on her 9021OMG podcast with pal and fellow Beverly Hills alum Tori Spelling, Jennie admitted:

“It made me feel very fearful, especially just with Luke dying and now Shannen. I just feel like, I don’t know, it could be any of us [that] could go at any moment. That kind of feeling … yeah, that’s scary.”

Sounds like she was chilled to the bone! Not an unreasonable reaction — we’re sure most folks even in their 30s have had someone their age — a friend, a family member, someone they went to school with — pass away. It always feels like someone walked on your grave, right?

Well, it turns out Tori isn’t as spookable as her co-host. She expressed:

“I didn’t feel fear at all when she passed. I just felt sad. I felt sad for the second chapter she had, and I was so excited for that chapter for her and wanted her so badly to have that.”

Makes perfect sense, of course. But no new fears about her own mortality??

Well, not really. Tori explained she’s “always been a fearful person” in general — and about death in specific, we guess? So more death didn’t change that. Wow.

But Shannen’s death hit Jennie hard, especially how sudden it felt, just like Luke’s — even though she should have been braced for it after the lengthy and difficult cancer battle. Shannen was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015, then went into remission in 2017 before it returned in 2020. Frankly, Jennie admits she “never thought she would succumb to cancer” after fighting it off so long:

“It’s crazy that we could be shocked knowing that she was sick and knowing how hard she was fighting, but it still felt shocking.”

She added:

“It was just shocking and makes you pissed, mad, sad, all the feelings because and then [you’re] like, ‘What the f**k?’ Because she’s the one person that you didn’t see this happening [to].”

It’s clear Jennie saw Shannen as someone far tougher than she ever was. She described how she actually really admired her late co-star:

“I learned a lot, you know, about how to stand up for myself, how to fight for things that I believed in. I also saw that she was saying what she needed to say, and I thought, ‘I want to be like that. I want to be a person that uses my voice and says what I need to say.’ So she did inspire me.”

As for how they’ll handle Shannen’s passing with things like 90210 podcasts and fan conventions? Jennie says she hopes everyone will keep coming together for the fans and one another:

“I know that it made us feel better to be together after Luke passed away. There was some comfort in that.”

Tori told Jennie of their group of friends:

“I can’t imagine this lifetime not getting to know all of you and not going through that experience that, as we say, Jen, no one can understand. And I’m OK with that because I wouldn’t have wanted to share it with anyone else besides all of you.”

Tori Spelling spent part of this Friday’s episode of the misSPELLING podcast discussing the olden days of landing strips on lovely ladies. If you’re too young to remember, back in the long-gone 1990s, women often trimmed their hair down there into long, thin, vertical strips! Like a runway pointing to, well, you know!

Anyways, Tori hopped onto that trend just like millions of other women. Landing strips were all the way in! And simultaneously, she hopped onto a second, seemingly unrelated trend, too: dyed platinum blonde hair! Ohhh, yeah. You probably think you can see where this is going… But you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

During Friday’s podcast episode, the 51-year-old star explained how she was in the midst of her run on Beverly Hills, 90210 when she went to the hairdresser to get her ‘do done up in platinum blonde. As the stylist was working on her head, she connected the dots on linking the hair up there and the hair down there after seeing the dye job come to life:

“I remember when I went platinum on 90210. I was at my hairdresser and getting it done and, at the time, landing strips were in. I said to my hairdresser, I was like, ‘oh my gosh, I love the color you did my hair. Wait, is that ever a thing? I could dye my pubes to match, like I’m platinum here, I could be platinum there.’ So, he whipped up a little bit [of the dye] and he gave it to me.”

Making the carpet match the drapes! Why not? Well…

Tori recalled how she walked out of the salon with the dye putty in hand and ready to use on her privates at home. There was just one issue: she was “rushing out” and “didn’t ask for instructions.” Uh-oh! She went home for her DIY down-there dye job, put the putty in her most sensitive spot, and let it sit. Next up? Pain! SO much pain!! The dye started to burn like hell and Tori hollered so loudly that her roommate, Kevin, rushed in to see what was the matter! She remembered:

“He comes in and it had turned bright purple. I don’t know if I left it on too long, probably the case, because it burned like hell, but it was bright purple.”

Ouch!!!

But also… kind of cool, maybe?! You know, besides the burning and the pain. We want to know if it was neon ’80s style purple, or a slightly darker pastel version of the color! LOLz! One thing is for certain: nobody else in the world has purple pubes!! Er, uh, at least we hope not….

Tori didn’t leave it in long enough to start a trend, though. She let the mess settle for a bit then shaved it all off in one fell swoop! She recalled:

“So, that was the first time I had to shave it all off and go down to the hardwood. And then I was like, ‘oh this is cute.'”

First off, “down to the hardwood” is an incredible euphemism. The carpet couldn’t match the drapes? Tear it up and go to the hardwood! Ha!

And also, bare bits became their own trend not long after the landing strip look, so Tori was truly a trendsetter in that way! Ha! What do U make of this crazy tale, Perezcious readers?! Ever had any dye drama of your own??

Speaking of Beverly Hills, 90210, the pair both talked about their relationships with ’90s bad boy Brian Austin Green. For Shannen it was an ill-conceived fling later in life, but for Tori it was special. She called him “the first love of my life.” That’s sweet — but it isn’t all!

She also recounted to Shannen a convo she had with BAG — who she’s been close friends with for decades — about the end of her marriage. Tori confessed to her high school sweetie that she didn’t even know if she was ever in love with Dean! WTF! She recalled telling her understanding ex:

“‘Maybe I wasn’t in love. I’m not sure. No one’s broken my heart since you.'”

Damn! She maybe didn’t love Dean that way… because her heart wasn’t broken? Not like it was when she and Brian were young and in love? Whoa! That is some 90210 drama but IRL! And that impression was only heightened by how Tori told the next part:

“And there was like pause, pause. And I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is the first time I’ve said it in 30 years.'”

Wow. She made clear this was NOT like it would be on the prime time soap that made them famous. It wasn’t some attempt to steal Brian from Sharna Burgess, nor was she jealous of Megan Fox during those years. It wasn’t pining all that time. And yet, as she said to Shannen…

“It’s been 30 years, we’re just friends. I love his fiancée, it’s not that. But if he says something to me, I get so flustered and riled up, and it takes me right back to being my 18-year-old self.”

And whatever that spark was, she now says she never had it with Dean? The whole time?? That must be such a shot across the bow for the guy!

Airing this out on her podcast, Tori must have known what she was doing, right? We’re so curious what Dean will say to learning his wife of 17 years, the mother of his five children… thinks maybe she was never in love with him? Oof…

On the latest episode of her misSPELLING podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum admitted to having some major financial difficulties. AKA, she’s broke AF! And she has a solution for it, too: joining the cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills!

On the surface, it makes a lot of sense. After all, who’s more Beverly Hills than Aaron Spelling‘s daughter — not to mention an actual 90210 star?? And she can certainly bring energy and contoversy to an always energetic and controversial show! But the issue isn’t whether she’d be down to do it — because she very much is. The hold-up is all about whether Bravo exec Andy Cohen would be down to let her sign on! And, uh, that part isn’t going so well.

During this latest podcast ep, Tori revealed that she did ask Andy about this exact possibility in the past… and he panned it! Pretty brutally, in fact! She noted:

“Once, I asked Andy Cohen, who I love and have known forever, been on his show many times. He was like, ‘yeah, we keep getting this question.’ And I’m like, ‘So, Andy, what’s the answer?’ He was like, ‘Eh, I don’t know. You and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? I can’t see it.'”

Damn!

We can just hear him saying that quote in his exact voice. Can’t you?? And with his face all scrunched up, too. LOLz!

Cohen’s opinion obviously really matters with this. He’s got more power over that franchise (and every Housewives franchise, TBH) than anybody else at Bravo. So, if he’s not feeling it, it’s probably not going to happen! Just saying! Still, Tori pushed back in this week’s podcast ep. First, she made the case by rehashing her Beverly Hills bonafides to listeners:

“I go, ‘Every single one of them I am friends with and have known forever and have a history.’ And whoa, whoa, whoa, wasn’t I the O.G. Beverly Hills? I don’t understand.”

Not wrong! And then she admitted she needs the gig to square away her finances! About being broke, she explained:

“What I really want to say to him, and I’m a little passive aggressive: ‘all the fans ask, Andy, so I don’t know. Whatever, that’s fine.’ What I wanted to say is, ‘uh, is it ’cause I’m broke? Let’s be real.'”

Oof.

Honestly, that really might be part of the hold-up. It’s been a persistent issue for Kim Zolciak in trying for a possible Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion, for one! But casting aside Tori’s Bravo casting dreams, the 50-year-old has been very candid about her financial woes already on this podcast run. As you may recall, in another recent ep, Tori copped to being a hoarder and admitted she was fast running out of money and time in being able to keep all of her s**t in rented storage units.

During Monday’s episode of her Let’s Be Clear podcast, Shannen welcomed guest and 90210 co-star Brian Austin Green. And while he had a lot to say about some of his own behind the scenes dating drama, so did she.

It’s no secret that Shannen and Jennie weren’t each other’s biggest fans once cameras stopped rolling. But there was one day in particular where things came to a head on set!! The 52-year-old recalled:

“[Jennie] was doing, she was calling it ‘Pants Down Day’ where she would pull the pants on some of the crew members in a funny way and some of them were getting pretty annoyed with it.”

Uhhh, yeah. That sounds pretty annoying. And clearly Shannen thought so too, because she eventually decided to flip the script on Jennie:

“And then I reversed it and I said, ‘Skirt up day.’”

Uh oh…

The Charmed star recalled:

“She always wore the men’s Calvin Klein boxer shorts under her clothes. So I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. And so I did ‘Skirt Up Day’ and oh, my God, she lost it on me and I was just not in the mood to back down.”

Yikes! We guess if you can dish it, you should be able to take it, right?? Or even better — how about no one rips off anyone else’s clothing at all?! Seems like a no brainer!

Brian remembered the moment, too, and shared this tidbit on the podcast:

“I remember at one point when there was a fight out front and Ian and I were there. And so, we were the two that stepped into, kind of, the middle of it to keep it from escalating.”

Damn!

Nearly five years after the Beverly Hills, 90210 star tragically passed away, his co-star is reflecting on what a difficult pill that was to swallow. During Wednesday’s episode of Getting Grilled with Curtis Stone, Brian revealed that after learning of Luke’s death, he struggled to come to terms with that harsh reality:

“I didn’t completely believe it. There was a part of me that couldn’t really process that that was real. I text[ed] him the day after he passed, just because there was a part of me that was like, ‘No, he’s gonna answer back. He’s hiding somewhere, or something’s happened.’ I didn’t completely believe that, but there was a big part of me that was hoping that that was the case for sure.”

That is absolutely devastating… Texting his friend while knowing he’s gone and still somehow hoping for a response?? Poor, poor Brian…

Elsewhere in the interview, he reflected on how “tough” the saddening news was — especially because he says Luke was so healthy:

“That was a tough one … You know when you have that core of people that are around you that eventually you’re going to get older and you’re going to start losing people. That’s just a part of life. But nobody ever expected that we would lose someone so early, and I honestly never never expected that it would be Luke. To me, in my mind, Luke was the strongest of everyone. He was the constant guy. He was exactly who he was at all times. He ate really well, he was really healthy, he was fit, like he was just really great that way.”

So, so sad.

Luke unfortunately passed after suffering a massive stroke in March of 2019.

The 50-year-old recalled that around the same of Luke’s death, he himself was recovering from stroke-like symptoms of his own — and believed he would be prepared to help his friend recover:

“When I heard the news that he was in the hospital and that he’d had a stroke, I had just come out of neurological stuff myself, so there was a part of me that was like, ‘I’m kind of prepared, I can help him through this. I can go to the hospital and he’ll be okay — even if it takes a couple years, he’ll be alright.’”

But sadly, that wasn’t the case. Brian added:

“Losing people is hard, man. It’s horrible and it’s always really hard when it’s the ones that you had just no thought of losing before. They’re completely out of the blue and you’re just floored by it. You’re completely sideswiped by it. Like, I never in a million years thought that that would happen.”

TV brother Jason Priestley stopped by the Let’s Be Clear podcast this time, and they eventually got to the touchy subject of Shannen’s firing from their hit TV show. And Shannen, now 52, admits it was on her. She began:

“I was in a really horrible marriage and there were things that were transpiring in that marriage that made it very hard for me to consistently be on time for work. And I know that that became a very big problem for the rest of you, as it should be.”

Shannen is, of course, talking about her marriage to Ashley Hamilton. The actor-musician has been pretty open about his drug problem from around that time — and the impact it had on his wife.

She realizes now in hindsight she should have been more open with everyone about what she was going through, why she maybe needed special consideration:

“I don’t think anybody knew that my father was super sick and I don’t think anybody knew that my husband was a massive drug addict… it was all consuming for me. I didn’t even want to leave the house because I was scared that he would go and get drugs.”

Her struggles meant, among other things, causing her co-stars to have to work longer days. So eventually she was written off the show, with her character going to school overseas. While Shannen takes accountability, she does make clear she wasn’t given an ultimatum, not an explicit one, before being let go:

“It wasn’t anybody’s responsibility by mine but I sort of wish I would have been sat down and sort of looked at and said, ‘Listen, the end result is going to be this, you are going to get fired and none of us are willing to put up with it anymore. And I understand that you have an issue in your personal life, but that also can’t bleed into work and you need to get your s**t together!'”

Yeah, at the time she had been in the industry a long time — but she was also only in her mid 20s and in some ways just didn’t know how to handle these really difficult subjects.

Jason actually told her he felt guilty about not being more compassionate at the time, but Shannen quickly stopped him and said her behavior was no one’s fault but her own:
