Prince William is doing his best to keep it together amid Princess Catherine and King Charles III‘s cancer diagnoses, but it ain’t easy!
As his loved ones deal with their scary health issues, the Prince of Wales has really had to step up the last few months. Not only does he have a whole family to care for, but he’s one of the only senior royals who’s been able to keep the monarchy running smoothly with Charles and Kate Middleton taking a step back from royal duties. (Though his father thankfully just returned to action.)

It’s hard to imagine a more stressful set of circumstances coming together all at once, and yet Willy’s been taking it in stride. On how he’s been managing all this, a royal insider told People on Wednesday:
“Whether you’re a prince or a pauper, no one would expect anything like this with his father and his wife both being treated for cancer. William is digging deep.”
Royal biographer Robert Lacey doubled down, adding:
“The double illness has placed enormous pressure on William, both as a parent and inheritor of the family business. It has brought all kinds of challenges. He [has handled] it with calmness and lack of drama.”
“Lack of drama”? Is that some shade toward Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?? Kinda sounds like it! We mean, there has been some drama surrounding Harry and his family lately, but when is there not? LOLz!
But back to William. While he’s holding it together so far, author Ingrid Seward told the outlet that his future is (obviously) entirely dependent on his wife getting better. Her cancer treatment and hopefully positive prognosis in the future is apparently THE key to getting this thing back on track. She shared:
“For William, everything hinges on Kate’s well-being.”
Oof. That makes this all the more stressful! We hope her treatment is going well!!
While Kate focuses on overcoming this disease, her hubby is doing everything he can to put her and the kids first, another unnamed source noted:
“William is prioritizing giving her all the time she needs to get better and the support, particularly to the children.”
Kate and Will have always made sure Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, were well taken care of — even rearranging their schedules to be with the kids on school breaks and to do school drop-offs and pick-ups when possible. So, the fact that they’ve been a main consideration through this whole health scare is no surprise. Focusing on the kids is likely helping the 41-year-old carry on as normally as possible, too, Lacey noted:
“From what we know of their personal lives, for William and Kate, spending time with their children is the most precious and enjoyable thing they can do.”
Family time is twice as important during struggles like this! And while William is busy with work these days, he did take some time off at the beginning of the year when Kate was recovering from an abdominal surgery before the cancer shocker. So, he knows when it’s important to step back! It’s certainly commendable to see him keep up with his responsibilities during this challenging time. Says a lot about the king he’ll be one day!
