Dance… murders?? The latest episode of Dance Moms has sparked tons of controversy after a girl performed a routine inspired by the unsolved murder of JonBenét Ramsey! WTF?!

If you don’t know, JonBenét (lower inset) was an American child beauty queen whose body was found “bludgeoned and strangled” in the basement of her family home in Boulder, Colorado on December 26, 1996, when she was just six years old. Her mother contacted 911 hours before after finding a ransom note following her disappearance. The death was obviously ruled a homicide, but nobody was ever charged for the crime.

Related: Julianne Hough Thinks THIS DWTS Champion Didn’t Deserve To Win!

After a lengthy investigation, her parents and brother Burke were ruled out as suspects, but the DNA of an “unexplained third party” still hasn’t been identified. So, it’s a horrific case… and somehow just became the inspiration behind a dance routine?? FFS.

In the latest episode of Hulu‘s Dance Moms: A New Era titled “Glo Don’t Give with Both Hands” out earlier this month, 11-year-old dancer Ashlan Scheide performed a routine that ended with her strangling herself and running off stage. Before the performance, Ashlan’s mother Lisa told her:

“You’re going to be a glitz pageant girl — that’s who JonBenét was, but then she got kidnapped and murdered.”

Her daughter told cameras:

“It’s going to be hard pulling off as, like, a beauty queen but you’re also gonna, like, be pretending like you’re strangled.”

Her mom then went into gruesome detail about the case — literally breaking down the crime by timestamp!! That caused her daughter to react:

“Oh my gosh, this is really not for me, but I’ll do anything for the win.”

Yeesh!! See her discover the horrifying backstory behind her dance:

Later in the episode, Ashlan’s dance teacher Gloria “Miss Glo” Hampton, who assigned this unusual dance, told her pupil:

“Remember, it’s a really sad, tragic story. So you’re playing this young child who was put on display at all these pageants and your parents want this fame and stardom for you — but is that what they really want?”

Again, this is about a MURDERED girl. And she’s trying to turn this into a debate about child stardom, too? Why??

See some of the now-viral performance, which helped her finish in fourth place in the competition (below):

Viewers have been outraged by the “disturbing” routine, taking to X (Twitter) to react:

“I’m outraged by episode of Dance Mom’s! They had a girl portraying [JonBenét] Ramsey and end of dances finishes with girl strangling herself & running off! Omg so damn disrespectful!”

“Say WHAT??????? Sick.”

“Who the hell thought something so tragic and despicable would be a good idea to perform?”

“[This] has to be the most disgusting example of child exploitation on prime time tv.”

“We have become a disgusting society using the actual murder of a child for entertainment. Shame on everyone associated with this, including the pedophiles who enjoy it.”

“Who would be that stupid?”

Over on Reddit, another user called it “extremely disturbing,” adding:

“I feel with cases like Jonbenet and Gypsy Rose [Blanchard] where the cases are incredibly public, several documentaries and movies made about them…people start to blur the lines and forget these are actual real life children. I think a dance about Jonbenet could never truly be done in taste. Simply because there is no happy ending, it’s just emphasizing a horrific murder of a child.”

They added that the organizers “could’ve easily done a beauty pageant routine without exploiting Jonbenets murder.'”

Meanwhile, others found it strange to base the performance on the murder when it wasn’t even clear to the audience, adding:

“How was the audience supposed to deduce that was about JonBenet Ramsey? It was weird.”

Weird, unnecessary, distasteful. So many words come to mind! It’s just so incredibly shocking to make a CHILD do that! This is going to make for one crazy therapy appointment in the future. LOLz! Reactions?? Sound OFF (below)!

TikTok star and Peruvian engineer Jainer Moises Pinedo Vargas (known as the “Dancing Engineer”) has died.

The 34-year-old content creator died on Sunday, August 18, after a fight with dengue fever, a mosquito-borne illness common in tropical and subtropical regions. Per the Mayo Clinic, it causes flu-like symptoms such as headaches, vomiting, and swollen glands. Sadly, Jainer’s condition escalated quickly and very severely.

Related: Daughter Allegedly Helped Mom Murder Dad With Poison From Etsy!

According to local outlet Peru21, the social media star first contracted the disease on July 21 while in Condorcanqui Province, Peru. Healthcare network Red Prestacional Lambayeque del Seguro Social de Salud – EsSalud confirmed the death in a press release, telling the outlet:

“The management of the Red Prestacional Lambayeque de EsSalud extends their sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones.”

Per Peru21, Jainer’s condition got worse when he developed pneumonia, leading to his hospitalization in Bagua. Fluid was soon discovered in his lungs, and he was sent to a large facility in Chiclayo. On August 14, he was placed on mechanical ventilation before suffering respiratory arrest caused by fluid re-accumulating in his lungs.

Per the Department of Health Deputy Minister, Ricardo Peña, while in the ICU, testing determined the dancer had a form of cancer known as Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Sadly, that likely made everything worse. Peña said:

“It is most likely that this underlying disease is linked, precisely, to this outcome.”

Wow. Just awful. Janier’s mother Betty Vargas García paid tribute to her son, writing on Facebook:

“Rest in peace, beloved son. We will miss you.”

Just two weeks before his death, in what is now his final Instagram post, Janier posted a video of himself dancing in the hospital (in which his diaper falls off). He said he only had “20% energy” at the time, but was remaining positive, writing:

“I’ve wanted to do this trend for a long time. Now with 20% energy I can do it. Obviously my ‘calvin kleins’ fell off. … Sick people who don’t dance don’t die!! We are only with 20% of energy”

He first grew famous in 2021 while making up choreography for a dance to the song No Se by Explosion de Iquitos. And now, his death is so untimely — and so sad. May he rest in peace.

Bobby Bones is hitting back at THOSE claims that he’s “not the best dancer” on Dancing with the Stars.

Over the weekend, Julianne Hough appeared on Watch What Happens Live, and revealed to host Andy Cohen that she didn’t think Bobby, the season 27 winner, deserved his crown based on his dance moves. Mickey Guyton, who was also on the show, was the first to criticize Bobby’s win, which Julianne wholeheartedly agreed with:

“Oh, I actually agree with you! And I think it’s because of the fanbase, right? It’s all about the fanbase on that show … He was not the best dancer, I agree.”

Ouch! And now, Bobby is clapping back!

The radio personality took to Instagram on Monday to sound off on the situation:

“Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live had Julianne Hough on [who] I’ve met her a couple times, she’s awesome. Julianne Hough [gets] no slander from me. But they asked Julianne Hough who was the worst ever and she was a bit diplomatic, and Mickey Guyton, of all people, was like, ‘Bob Bones.’ And so Julianne was like, ‘Yeah.’”

But guess what? He AGREES! The 44-year-old continued:

“I was the worst dancer. I take pride in that. Now I tried as hard as anyone in the history of the show, but I can’t dance now. I couldn’t dance then. But you know who took down the big evil empire of dance? Well, it’s not evil or an empire, but me and you. We did it together. I’m the greatest champion ever I didn’t say I was the greatest dancer, I’m the greatest champion ever because I’m a man of the people. I’m the man that you guys selected.”

He added:

“Julianne Hough, you’re cool … You’re awesome.”

On an episode of Watch What Happens Live on Sunday, the 36-year-old revealed that she thinks the season 27 winner of the dance competition show didn’t deserve his place. In the clip, guest host Mickey Guyton said she thinks champ Bobby Bones shouldn’t have taken home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy — and Julianne was totally in agreement:

“Oh, I actually agree with you! And I think it’s because of the fanbase, right? It’s all about the fanbase on that show.”

In fact, she went on to add that she thinks he’s just not a great dancer in general:

“He was not the best dancer, I agree.”

The DWTS host quickly clarified her stance along with Mickey, though, and they both said he had “great” fans who “love him.” You can see the clip (below):

If you don’t remember, Bobby did the popular “flossing” dance move with his partner Sharna Burgess on the show, which racked up TONS of fan votes and got him the win.

Not the entire world was laughing at Raygun, we guess. No, some folks are hopping mad!

The Australian contender in the Olympics‘ first foray into Breakdancing made a name for herself right away — as a joke. With some rudimentary moves and comical kangaroo hops, Rachael Gunn made clear she had no business being in a competition of the world’s most skilled breakers. While most were happy to laugh and enjoy the memes as she scored zero points, plenty of viewers pointed out some real irksome issues with her performance.

First, it ridiculed their sport/art form on an international stage. Second, she took a spot that should have gone to one of the most talented b-girls in Oz… which she most definitely is not. So how the heck did she get there??

Video: Rachel Dratch’s Parody Of Viral Olympic Breakdancer Raygun Gets ALL THE POINTS!!!

That’s what a petition launched Sunday intends to find out. The change.org page entitled “Hold Raygun Rachel Gunn & Anna Mears Accountable for Unethical Conduct Olympic Selection” already has a whopping 54,255 signatures as of this writing. Wow.

The petition’s creators call for “immediate accountability and transparency in the recent actions of” Raygun and Anna Meares “in the selection process for Australia’s female breakdancer representative.” Meares is Australia’s chef de mission, meaning she’s responsible for the whole Aussie team. And she called Raygun the “best breakdancer, female” in Oz. Which… No.

The authors are nominally looking for proof, but they already seem to have their theories. They make the bold claim that Rachael, who wrote her PhD thesis on breakdancing but is trained as a ballroom dancer, “manipulated the selection process to her own advantage.” They accuse her of having a hand in organizing the Aussie qualifier — which would be bad enough — but also specifically of refusing entry to more skilled groups. They specifically mention the “NT Youlong Boys, a group of incredibly talented and underprivileged youth from the Northern Territory.” And they go on to argue just the fact she won over the other breakdancers in the qualifier raises “serious questions about the fairness and integrity of the process.”

We mean… fair?

Now, the petition also mentions some of the conspiracy theories that have been going around. They mention Gunn’s husband being “the Australian coach and part of the selection panel.” Our understanding is he’s Raygun’s coach, which is actually a really common thing — and that he was NOT a judge on the committee who picked Australia’s contender. Whether he and/or his wife knew the people involved, whether they had some edge… that’s less clear.

But we have learned the entire competition was, for some reason, run by a competitive ballroom organization. The World DanceSport Federation, or WDSF, has been trying to get ballroom dancing into the Olympics for years, to no avail. It was apparently seen as too old-fashioned. Near as anyone can tell they pivoted to breakdancing due to its novelty — not to mention athleticism similar to gymnastics. Breaking was added to the Youth Olympics in 2018, giving the WDSF a foot in the door. Only that shoe was clad in a high top instead of a high heel.

The WDSF’s sudden control over breakdancing in the Olympics was extremely controversial. Perhaps the most salient argument was put forth by Serouj “Midus” Aprahamian, assistant professor of dance at the University of Illinois. He wrote in his own petition back in 2018:

“The WDSF is a competitive ballroom dance organization. It has absolutely no connection or credibility with any legitimate entity in the worldwide breaking community. That the IOC has allowed these impostors to oversee breaking at the Youth Olympics is a travesty and a scandal.”

He made the amazing points:

“Would the IOC allow the Badminton World Federation to oversee baseball? Would it allow the Federation for Equestrian Sports to oversee auto-racing? Why would the Olympics accept such a polar opposite and illegitimate entity as the WDSF to have anything to do with breaking? This action is immoral, illogical, and insulting to the hundreds of thousands of B-boys and B-girls worldwide who live and breathe this culture.”

OK, so if you assume Midus was right back then… suddenly the whole thing makes a lot more sense, right? If the people putting this whole thing together (or more accurately choosing the smaller organizations to put together qualifiers in their countries) was a bunch of ballroom dancers, no wonder ballroom dancers were suddenly the ones representing the sport.

That’s what happened in Australia. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, there was no national breakdancing body so a bunch of WDSF-affiliated dancers who consider themselves b-boys and b-girls were the ones who became either competitors or officials. Gunn and her husband Samuel Free, who consider themselves to be “top breakers” in Australia, were among them. Neither was a judge, but it sounds like it was a very small community from which all the competitors and judges were chosen. There were only 15 female dancers competing in the WDSF Oceania Breaking Championships to get a spot in the Olympics. 15 from all of Australia??? Seems like a small number, right??

We agree with the petitioners it’s worth looking into how close all these people were, whether there was anything more at play than just finding the best breakers. We’d especially like to know if underprivileged breakers were held out of the competition by ballroom dancers. After all, the Herald notes the big resurgence of breaking in Oz starting in the ’90s was “mostly among marginalised communities in disadvantaged areas.” Hmm.

What do YOU think, Perezcious readers?? You can see (and maybe sign) the petition for yourself HERE!

Jimmy got to list his top five Olympic moments during the closing ceremony on Sunday — but Raygun’s whatever-that-was did not make the list. “Thank you for stopping by! I have to ask you this, how are you feeling since your performance?”

Instead of opting for words, Rachel hilariously flops around the dance floor mimicking the highly talked-about dance moves. The TV host adds:

“Raygun, I see you speak through your dance moves. I understand, OK, so is there anything else you’d like to tell us?”

He then joins in on the viral routine. Ch-ch-check it out (below):

Raygun is ALL the rage with Adele!

If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard about the new meme queen Rachael Gunn, you’ve been missing out! The Australian breakdancer for the 2024 Olympics has been going absolutely viral online for her unique and “creative” routine, as she put it. Between kangaroo hops to rep her home country mixed with a few amateurish spins and kicks that barely resembled the actual breakdancing being performed by her opponents, she proved to the world she had absolutely no business being on the world stage at such a prestigious event. And the internet ATE IT UP!

Just check out some moments from her performance (below):

And, as it turns out, her biggest fan is none other than someone who is a virtuoso in their field: Adele!!

During her concert at Messe München, the Hello singer took a moment between songs to shout out Raygun. Superfan Jennifer Cook‘s TikTok footage shows the whole in-concert moment, where the songstress said:

“I have to ask you because it’s all that me and my friends have been talking about last night, after the show and today — and I’m not saying anything, you know, I think it’s the best thing that’s happened in the Olympics the entire time — did anyone see the breakdancing lady?”

LOLz!

She went on to call the addition of breakdancing to the Olympic Games “f**king fantastic”, although she admitted she couldn’t tell if Rachael’s routine was “a joke” or not. But that didn’t matter, as the Someone Like You singer said:

“It has made me very very happy … Me and my friends have been s**tting ourselves laughing for 24 hours.”

THAT viral breakdancer is speaking out after becoming a meme!

If you missed it, Australian breaker Raygun (real name Rachael Gunn) competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics last week — where she lost her three round-robin-style battles on Friday. But the moves did make her an international star, with many turning clips of her unconventional routine into memes.

From her outfit that made her look like a PE teacher to her kangaroo-inspired dancing, there was so much that caught the world’s attention. But it wasn’t always good attention, as most used the moment to mock her performance. Oof!

Related: Team USA Has Evidence Decision To Strip Jordan Chiles Of Medal Was WRONG!

If you missed the big moment, ch-ch-check out some highlights from her routine:

And here’s one of her competitors for reference:

The difference is crazy! LOLz!

The comparisons between her dancing and the other b-girls has gone wild online. And now, Raygun is finally clapping back! In an interview with ESPN on Saturday, the 36-year-old competitor slammed the hate she’s been facing online, arguing:

“I was never going to beat these girls [Team USA’s b-girl Logistx, 21, France’s Syssy, 16, and Lithuania’s Nicka, 17] on what they do best — their power moves. What I bring is creativity.”

That said, she stands by her routine! She added:

“All of my moves are original. Creativity is really important to me. I go out there, and I show my artistry. Sometimes it speaks to the judges, and sometimes it doesn’t. I do my thing, and it represents art. That is what it is about.”

Well, her performance was creative, we’ll give her that!

Rachael, who was a jazz and ballroom dancer before she got into breaking in her 20s, is a professor at Macquarie University and studies “the cultural politics of breaking,” according to her bio. But she’s also won a ton of other competitions over the years that helped her quality for the Olympic Games, so it’s not like this was brand new to her. Too bad the judges (and pretty much all the viewers at home) just weren’t on her side this time!

Standing up for her, Australia’s chef de mission (AKA the person in charge of a national team) Anna Meares slammed the criticism the dancer has faced! The official called it sexist while pointing out how breaking is such a “male-dominated sport.” She dished:

“I love Rachael, and I think that what has occurred on social media with trolls and keyboard warriors, and taking those comments and giving them airtime, has been really disappointing. Raygun is an absolutely loved member of this Olympic team. She has represented the Olympic team, the Olympic spirit with great enthusiasm. And I absolutely love her courage. I love her character, and I feel very disappointed for her, that she has come under the attack that she has.”

Anna furthered:

“In 2008, she was locked in a room crying being involved in a male-dominated sport as the only woman, and it took great courage for her to continue on and fight for her opportunity to participate in a sport that she loved. That got her to winning the Olympic qualifying event to be here in Paris. She is the best breakdancer female that we have for Australia.”

Anyone who can make it to the Olympics is obviously talented at what they do! But when compared to the other athletes, yeah, it’s not hard to see why she became such a viral sensation! She certainly stood out!

But, of course, nobody deserves all this mockery, either. So, we hope she’s doing what she can to protect her mental health right now!! Thoughts?? Sound OFF (below)!
