The Hero singer announced in a statement to People on Monday that in a “tragic turn of events” both her mother Patricia and her older sister Alison died separately on the same day. The day Mimi provided her statement, David Baker, a longtime friend, revealed Alison had been in hospice for three weeks prior to her death. He also said Mariah knew, but didn’t ever reach out. Now, he’s speaking out more about his friend’s “tough life” and estrangement from the My All singer.

Speaking to People on Wednesday about Alison’s passing, David explained:

“We saw it coming, but it’s still a shock. She got ill fairly quickly and a month later, she’s gone.”

Unfortunately, the last time Mariah saw her late sister was either in 1994 or 2002, according to David. Either way, over 20 years.

As we’ve covered in the past, the two had a falling out in ’94 amid Alison’s tough life. She got pregnant with her first child at just 15 years old and because of her lack of work experience, found it difficult to bring home money. So she unfortunately turned to teen prostitution. In 1987, she had her second child, and just one year after that, she tested positive for HIV.

On top of all that, she also struggled with substance abuse. The late 63-year-old made it known that Mariah had paid for multiple of her rehab stints, but things finally came to a breaking point in 1994. Patricia apparently went to pick up Alison’s son Michael for a weekend visit but ended up taking him in full time and got temporary custody because she felt Alison was an unfit mother.

Years later, Alison returned the favor. She launched a shocking lawsuit against her late mother, claiming she subjected her to sexual assault in satanic rituals when she was just a child. You can read more about that HERE.

As for Mariah, she made it clear in her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey that it was “emotionally and physically safer for [her] not to have any contact” with her big sister.

Such heartbreaking stuff. It’s so sad that things had to go that way for the Carey family.

However, just because Alison wasn’t close with her sister and mother doesn’t mean she had no one. David spoke about first meeting his late friend in 2015 after she suffered a traumatic brain injury during a terrifying home invasion, which affected her short-term memory. It was Alison and Mariah’s brother Morgan who reached out in a Facebook support group asking if anyone would be able to go visit and spend some time in the hospital — and David stepped up. He explained:

“I knew when I saw the request that I was the only person anywhere near Albany, New York, so I said, ‘Well, I’m going to go for this.’ They eventually sent me to the hospital and I met Alison.”

And over the past nine years, David said “hardly a day went by” where he and his friend didn’t speak over the phone:

“I saw somebody who needed help and I knew I could do it. She’d tell me that she was so glad I was around. More recently, before she got sick, if I went somewhere for an hour, she’d call and say, ‘When are you coming back?’ And I’d say, ‘Well, I’ll be there in 20 minutes.’ And then she’d call a second time and say, ‘When are you coming back?’ Because short-term memory was affected by the brain injury.”

He even helped find her Coxsackie apartment in New York three years ago, which was ultimately where she passed away. He told the outlet:

“She got her wish. She died in her own home.”

But before that, David shared that her four kids — three sons and one daughter — visited two to three weeks before her death. And her daughter, who apparently lived close, even began visiting daily.

We’re so glad to hear she was surrounded by loved ones in her final days. She lived such a difficult life. May she and Patricia both rest in peace.

On Monday, Alison Carey‘s longtime friend David Baker told The US Sun Mariah “cut off” contact with her big sister, and that their relationship next to nonexistent ever since:

“Alison was unhappy that her ‘baby sister’ had cut off contact with her. She talked about it frequently. She wondered if Mariah or any of her relatives would come to her funeral. I am told that a memorial service is planned for a future date, but nothing now.”

As we reported on Monday, Mariah told People that her sister and mother Patricia sadly died on the same day “in a tragic turn of events.” She said:

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

The 55-year-old didn’t reveal the details of how her mom and sis died. Her mother was 87, so it’s just been assumed natural causes. Alison was quite sick, too, apparently.

According to the outlet, Alison had been dealing with drug addiction, homelessness, and a multitude of health issues over the last nine years, including being HIV positive. Just last year, Alison took to social media to reveal she was “living without teeth” because she didn’t “have the money” for dental work.

She was reportedly in hospice for the final three weeks of her life. David claims Mariah was made aware of Alison’s condition — but never made an effort to reach out:

“No, Mariah has never tried to contact Alison, even after she was told a month ago that Alison was dying. A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison. But it never came. And now Mariah is ‘heartbroken’ by the loss of her mother and her ‘ex’ sister. That callous rejection added more hurt to Alison’s pain.”

Oof. If true, that’s… that’s rough. But of course we don’t know the most intimate details of their relationship. It’s impossible to judge these situations from the outside.

Obviously David has a different opinion of Alison than Mariah. He remembered his friend fondly while speaking to the outlet:

“Beneath a tough exterior, Alison was a highly intelligent, warm, and sensitive person. I have known her for nine years, and as her friend, and in recent months her care, I will miss her greatly.”

So tragic.

Our hearts continue to go out to the whole Carey family — no matter how estranged they may have been.

With an extremely heavy heart, the iconic singer revealed to People on Monday that both her mom Patricia and her older sister Alison died on the same day over the weekend. She shared:

How completely awful… What a one-two punch… We can’t even imagine. The Hero singer continued:

WHAT HAPPENED?! Unfortunately we don’t know yet. At this time, it’s not exactly clear what Patricia and Alison’s causes of death are. It does seem from the statement they did not die together in a car accident or something, as one might expect. It truly was a tragic, inexplicable coincidence.

In an interview with E! News published on Tuesday, the Wild ‘n Out host revealed that after testing the waters with five other baby mommas, he ultimately wants to be with his first: Mariah Carey! When asked by the outlet if he’d ever consider getting back together with her, he said:

“We belong together. Yes, absolutely. Be stupid if I wouldn’t.”

Sheeeeeeesh. Nick has a proven track record of pinballing around baby mommas like nobody’s business, so why wouldn’t he consider factoring THE Mariah — the original recipe — into that equation?

But as far as why they haven’t rekindled their love, especially in the wake of her split from ex-boyfriend Bryan Tanaka, he revealed:

“Yeah, you done left and had like 10 kids.”

He clearly moved on from her tenfold, so why shouldn’t she do the same?

As long as the kids are happy and they have the strongest understanding, I think that’s what makes sense. You gotta operate out of that.”

And while he may dream, it sounds like he knows the Mariah ship has sailed… Especially since their kids are now teens and even their days spending time together as co-parents are numbered:

“We gonna be done soon. We got teenagers now. I’m about to shed a tear. It’s happening too fast.”

There ain’t nobody else like Nick Cannon! Ha!

Appearing in a new episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman on Wednesday, the Hannah Montana alum revealed she doesn’t have many friends in the entertainment industry — despite literally growing up in the industry! There’s a good reason for it, too! She explained:

“I am not very active or a very active part of my community of other artists and entertainers and celebrities. It just doesn’t feel like my people when I’m in that room. But there are certain artists.”

But who are those certain artists?? Well, once you hear who she does consider a friend, it’s clear why she’s not out seeking any more! (And perhaps this is related to her messy family issues, too?!?!)

The Flowers singer dished:

“Like Beyoncé — who, like us, we’ve known each other for a long time.”

We mean, it doesn’t really get any better than Queen Bey! No wonder Miley isn’t out searching for more celeb pals. LOLz!

But part of the reason she considers the Single Ladies artist a friend is because they do indeed go way back. The Disney Channel alum recalled singing Just Stand Up! with the Destiny’s Child alum, Mary J. Blige, Carrie Underwood, Fergie, Natasha Bedingfield, Ashanti, and tons more “when [she] was probably 15” at the 2008 Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon. She recalled:

“I was, like, sandwiched between Rihanna and the Queen Bey, and they’re fully grown up, gorgeous, probably similar to my age now. Towering over me, completely stunning. I’m like, super small, have acne, have braces on the back of my teeth, and I’m standing next to Mariah Carey, who is dripping in diamonds. And Beyoncé was so kind to me.”

Amaze!

Ever since then, they have continued to show support on one another and even collaborated on II Most Wanted for Beyoncé’s latest album, Cowboy Carter. The 31-year-old Grammy winner mused:

“Now, just from seeing her, I’ve created, like, a relationship, maybe, a bit more in-depth. We haven’t ever had this conversation, so now maybe you and I may be more friends than I’m friends with Beyoncé, but Beyoncé and I have just the kindness and the consistency of everything.”

So important! And it all makes sense. Being as famous and successful as she is, Miley has probably had to be suspicious of a lot of people in the entertainment industry. You just never know people’s true intentions! That’s why she keeps her inner circle close. She explained:

“I’m part of my community in that way, but it’s all quantity — not quality. I’m not very active in that.”
