Harry Styles is willing to try anything once. Being an octopus, dating his director, drinking from footwear…
While performing Down Under, the 29-year-old decided to take part in a famous Australian tradition, known as “Shoey,” where one drinks from their sneaker. Yep, you read that right. When in Oz, do as the Aussies do, we guess!

During his Monday concert in Perth, the As It Was hitmaker filled up his $780 Adidas x Gucci sneaker with an unspecified beverage, and promptly poured it down the hatch! See (below):

Uhhh, we’ll pass on that tradition, but good for him for going for it, LOLz! He then spoke directly to fans, saying:
“This is one of the most disgusting traditions I’ve ever [heard of].”
And engaged in, we imagine! He playfully continued:
“I feel like a different person. I feel ashamed of myself. It feels so personal. Such an intimate moment to be shared with so many people. I’ll be discussing this with my therapist at length. At length.”
LOLz, we don’t blame him, and neither does Twitter, as fans quickly started chiming in with their own takes on the stunt, writing things like:
“who put harry styles drinking from a shoe on my tl…”
“Harry take off his shoe, put water in it and then drunk it. if I’m not wrong it’s a tradition ?”
“just saw the video of harry styles drinking out of a shoe and let me just say every day i thank the universe that i stan bts who would never do gross s**t like that”
“Sweaty shoe juice no thank u”
“why r ppl cheering i feel sick”
“i cant defend this”
“still thinking about the video of harry styles drinking from his shoe and putting it back on right after”

As for the tradition’s origin, many have claimed it started with Perth native Daniel Ricciardo, a Formula One driver, who has been seen chugging from his own shoe on multiple occasions. Some even speculated Harry’s decision to partake was a nod to the racer, as they share mutual friend Xander Ritz — Ricciardo even previously told Australian radio hosts Fitzy and Wippa that the Late Night Talking singer wears his merch “all the time.” He explained at the time:
“[Harry and I] have a mutual friend who is, let’s say, very close to me and it’s someone close to him as well.”
Just bros being bros, we guess! What’s YOUR take on the Aussie tradition, Perezcious readers? Would you ever dare to partake? Let us know in the comments down below!
