Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could steal the royal family’s spotlight!
The Suits alum says she doesn’t want to get into politics, and the couple has stepped back from their senior working royal roles. However, with so many members of their family out of commission for health reasons, this is the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s time to shine — and they seem to be taking advantage of it!
Royal insider Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun on Tuesday that with King Charles III and Princess Catherine battling cancer, and their respective partners Queen Camilla and Prince William taking time to care for them, The Firm is lacking the personnel to draw publicity. Well, good publicity anyway. But the ex-royals are only just starting to get more public with their work, making this the perfect timing for them to outshine the family! And they really wouldn’t need to do much to accomplish that!

Richard explained:
“The problem with Royal Family at the moment is that they are simply not able to do something which attracts attention on the same level — and attention is important if you’re royal.”
He added that Charles and Kate Middleton‘s health issues have left a “vacuum” that other senior royals are unable to fill, adding:
“There’s little doubt there is a vacuum. One’s really talking about really high profile royals. Of course, the Princess Royal [Princess Anne] and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh [Prince Edward and his wife Sophie] and others do sterling work and carry out visits abroad. But they are not particularly high profile and I don’t think they particularly want to be. The institution does need this oxygen.”
On the flip side, Harry and Meghan are ready, willing, and able to get back out there – and just about anything they do makes headlines! While they are no longer working for the royal family, they did just go on a “faux royal tour to Nigeria” in May, proving their desire to continue making a change and highlighting causes close to their hearts. But it’s also shown they don’t need to be attached to Harry’s famous family to create just as much buzz — so if they continue with these kinds of visits, they could outshine his relatives in no time. The commentator continued:
“There’s also no doubt that Harry and Meghan discovered this in what I would describe as their faux royal tour to Nigeria.”
The “success” of the trip has sparked more travel plans — and thus lots more attention on the actress and Spare author. The couple just accepted an invitation to head to Colombia for a visit later this year where they will yet again pull attention away from the royal family, the insider dished:
“It’s going to take an enormous amount of publicity and the Royal Family will not be able to match that in any way that I can foresee.”
Uh-oh! Sounds like the royal family’s worst nightmare. LOLz!
While these travel plans are obviously centered around philanthropic causes, it doesn’t mean the Sussexes won’t take shots at their estranged relatives along the way, something the royal family should be worried about. Richard shared:
“They’ve shown in the last couple of weeks they’re not afraid to bring up material that would embarrass the Royal Family or refer to rifts with it. And that’s only a step away from overtly criticising it. They would say that they’re doing their own thing in a way they feel they are best able to do it.”
He noted:
“What it will do, however, will be to draw attention to the Sussexes and not to the Royal Family, at least not to the Royal Family in a positive way because the Sussexes and the Royal Family have a very deep rift. That’s the problem.”
Yeah, that’s the last thing the royals are gonna want! But what can they do to stop it?? This is the problem they are now faced with after downsizing the royal family so much! They’re just gonna have to ignore all the attention the Sussexes get — and hope Harry and Meghan don’t continue to use the spotlight to hit back at them! If only they hadn’t pushed the pair to leave — or allowed them to remain sort of royal-adjacent — they could’ve taken advantage of all the easy PR the duo gets!
