Diddy was given the key to New York City just last September by Mayor Eric Adams, but now he already has to return it amid all the allegations and lawsuits against him!
According to CBS News, which first reported on the story over the weekend, earlier this month, Mayor Adams and the people who hand out the ceremonial key to the city decided to nullify the rap mogul’s award and request that the key be sent back at once. Amid the controversy involving his ex Cassie, as well as the multiple unsettling lawsuits and other claims against him, NYC wants no part of Diddy!

In a letter about the matter that the mayor wrote privately to one of Combs’ companies earlier this month, Adams noted:
“The Key to the City of New York is presented to individuals whose service to the public and the common good rises to the highest level of achievement, and who act as a model for fellow and future New Yorkers. After internal deliberations, the Key to the City of New York committee recommended nullifying and rescinding Mr. Combs’ key. I have accepted their recommendation.”
Along with it, Adams requested that Diddy return the key directly to City Hall as soon as possible. Per that news outlet, the key was indeed received as requested by the mayor’s office last week. It’s only a ceremonial thing, obviously. But still. Ouch!!
And that’s not the only rescinding going on with Diddy. Also earlier this month, Howard University rescinded an honorary degree that they’d previously awarded him in 2014 and cut financial ties with the mogul. But the key to NYC is definitely noteworthy if only for how quickly it came back. The rapper had it for just nine months! And then… poof! Reactions, y’all??
