The Dawson’s Creek alum, who was the crush of many a ’90s kid — and has even been name-dropped as a sex symbol in other media like Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle — wants everyone to know that ain’t her!

In a new interview with Glamour, Katie was asked about avoiding being typecast as the “sexy young thing” — and her response was genuinely double-take inducing! She said:
“I didn’t want to be the sexy young thing. I am not sexy.”
Sorry, what?? Is that even allowed? Is she allowed to declare herself unsexy? We kind of feel like it isn’t working. Especially when paired with her brand new cover shot!
Yeah, sorry, momma! You are looking SPECTACULAR HERE! But she says in her early days she actively tried to avoid the whole Maxim cover girl thing, recalling:
“I used to have a friend of mine come to all my photo shoots to make sure that they didn’t try to make me that way.”
Fair enough! We’ve heard some horror stories about some magazine shoots…
But ultimately Katie says that was a landmine she was very aware of stepping on because she did NOT want to be considered sexy at all:
“Yeah, I guess I just wanted to be an actor.”
Huh. It’s a totally reasonable aspiration, of course. But you can’t help if people find you sexy. Being a good actor is sexy, being confident is sexy, being chill is sexy. And the Disturbing Behavior star was and is sexy. Obviously that doesn’t stop her from playing all sorts of roles, but we call ’em like we see ’em!
