An Indiana man pleaded guilty to aggravated battery after admitting he poisoned his wife. And the story behind that is… even more shocking.

According to newly revealed court documents accessed by USA Today and other outlets, 71-year-old Alfred Ruf (pictured above) pled guilty to aggravated battery during a court hearing in Richmond, Indiana back in July. Then, on Monday of this week, he was sentenced to four years in prison and five more years of probation.

According to prosecutors, the whole thing came about after Ruf got the idea to kill his longtime wife… so that he could marry his stepdaughter!

Per multiple outlets, Ruf told cops that he began “spiking” his wife’s drinks in January 2022. The substance he used, which authorities later determined to contain cocaine, MDMA, and benzodiazepines, was first given to him by his stepdaughter — the woman’s very own daughter.

The whole plot came undone when the wife began to suspect she was being drugged. She went to the cops with a pill bottle she found in her house that contained an unknown powdery substance with an “off-white residue.” They tested it, and also her blood and urine, and all samples came back with those three drugs. She denied ever using drugs herself — and so, the investigation was on.

The whole thing began to unravel rather quickly after that. When questioned, Ruf admitted he had been poisoning his wife in a wild bid to get with her daughter from a previous marriage. Ruf’s defense attorney told USA Today:

“Once the state changed the nature of the offense, he took responsibility for what he did wrong. That’s the appropriate thing to do.”

Uh… sure… better late than never, we suppose.

The motive for Ruf’s poisoning attempt is even crazier. Per prosecutors, Ruf admitted to being sexually involved with his stepdaughter, who is — thankfully — an adult at 31 years old. She was the one who gave him the pill bottle, he claimed, and she ordered him to put the substance in her mother’s Coca-Cola. But the stepdaughter has not been charged in connection with the crimes.

As for the reasoning behind it, prosecutors said Ruf and the stepdaughter, who has not been named publicly, were having sex — and were even keen on getting married after his wife was out of the picture. At various times, the stepdaughter — as well as an unidentified friend of hers — would call Ruf and ask him to come sprinkle the poison into the Coke cans. At that point, according to a police affidavit, all hell would break loose:

“Alfred would then sprinkle some of the white powder in (his wife’s) Coca-Cola can and then wait for her to fall asleep. [The two women] would then come to Alfred’s residence and put more of an unknown substance in (Ruf’s wife’s) drink and have her drink it.”

Then, with his wife knocked out cold — Ruf told cops she would usually be unconscious for 12-13 hours — the daughter and her friend would put on a “show” for the old man. Per court docs, the two younger women would wear the wife’s lingerie and perform “sex acts on each other” for Ruf to watch.

WTF?!?!?!

Ruf would pay the women for the sex acts, per cops. And to top it all off, the two women allegedly stole some of the unconscious wife’s personal items during those sex sessions, as well. Per the affidavit, the stepdaughter in question wanted to “get mom out of the picture” after first learning that Ruf and his wife were planning on selling their home. (Seems like we’ve been hearing a lot of unsettling news in that realm lately…) The stepdaughter was also apparently interested in a life insurance policy that was in place for her mother.

Ruf’s stepdaughter kept telling him they would get married after they “took care” of his wife, per court docs. So yes, Ruf did realize his wife would eventually die from the persistent powerful drug cocktails. In the end, he told interrogators he “felt bad” about what was going on and decided to come clean. Now he’s facing the prospect of spending some time in prison on these horrific charges.

Of course, the monarch is in the midst of a fight against cancer right now, and has been undergoing treatments to battle the disease for months. Well, this week, the 75-year-old gave a bit more insight into that fight, and how it’s been going. And he only needed four words to do it!

The occasion in question was an event held for those affected by the Southport mass stabbing, which occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed event in that city on July 29. The tragedy left three young children dead, and several other people injured. On Wednesday, King Charles met with the families of those who were lost, as well as surviving victims of the tragedy. The entire event was emotionally charged, as you’d expect. But along the way, he also gave some insight into the upheavals in his personal life, too.

According to Express, one of the attendees at the somber event briefly changed the subject to politely ask Prince William‘s father how he was coming along with his cancer fight. And King Charles offered up some good news! In a very low-key way, at least. Needing just four words to answer the query, he said:

“I’m not too bad.”

We love to hear that! Per that same outlet, he appeared to be in fine fettle while interacting with those at the memorial. Obviously, it was not a happy event with lots of smiles and laughs, so he wasn’t carefree or heartening in that way. But it’s great to hear that Charles is currently upbeat about his battle nonetheless!

Charlie Sheen‘s ex-wife was not charged — unlike several others — but it turns out cops were right to be looking into her. A source told Us Weekly on Wednesday that the pair had a complicated relationship over the years after befriending each other in rehab as they dealt with their addiction and mental health struggles. The insider explained:

“They met at rehab a couple times, and when they reconnected the last time at treatment they were back on each other’s radars.”

But unfortunately, they allegedly didn’t just lean on each other for support.

The Friends alum reportedly turned to Brooke for “favors,” they dished:

“Matthew was a friend who would ask her for favors. And Matthew was relentless. That’s what an addict is. She was a pawn to Matthew. They didn’t go to dinner or hang out. He was isolated even from friends and family.”

The insider believes these “favors” included exchanging names of shady doctors who were more lax about prescriptions, they claimed:

“On and off for years Matthew and Brooke had been trading information on doctors. And it was implied they were more liberal than others when it came to meds.”

Oof. The source claimed Brooke “would give him names to potentially questionable doctors.” And even more, this was usually a one-sided trade:

“Typically, Matthew was the one to reach out to her, not the other way around. It was a random text and Facetime.”

Their connection quickly concerned those in the Fools Rush In star’s inner circle so much that measures were supposedly taken to cut them off. The source shared:

“People in his life tried to prevent him from reaching out to her.”

The source added that Matthew “was already dependent on prescriptions just to manage his daily healthcare needs.” But you combine that with his addiction, and it was a brutal (and eventually deadly) combination.

Ultimately, five people were charged in Matthew’s tragic death: his personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, “Ketamine Queen” Jasveen Sangha, Dr. Mark Chavez, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, and Erik Fleming. Charges included conspiracy to distribute ketamine, distribution of ketamine resulting in death, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and altering and falsifying records related to a federal investigation, per Us. Drowning, coronary artery disease, the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opiate addiction), and other health conditions were also listed as contributing factors to Matthew’s death, but it was the high level of ketamine in his system that was most concerning.

While he’d been using ketamine therapy to treat his depression and anxiety under supervision, the amount of drugs in his system and the timing of his death indicated that it hadn’t been part of his therapy. It was later determined that his assistant allegedly helped supply him several times with ketamine on the day of his death. Just tragic.

While Brooke had allegedly been trading doctor’s names with him, cops must not have found anything incriminating during their questioning since she wasn’t arrested. Per In Touch, authorities took Brooke’s laptop and iPhone amid an investigation and she “was completely cooperative.” She’s yet to open up about the investigation or her relationship with the late actor.

The longtime fitness guru was found dead at his home in Los Angeles back on July 13 by his longtime housekeeper. He was 76 years old, and had just celebrated his birthday the prior day. Having mostly left the spotlight in recent years, Richard’s passing came as quite a shock to many people.

Plus, the Los Angeles Police Department made an initial indication that the cause of Simmons’ death was to be deferred pending additional testing. Naturally, that made fans and mourners wonder what might have happened to the gentle and kind star. And now, we know. On Wednesday, the Simmons family released a statement to People about the exact circumstances that led to Richard’s sad death.

The statement was delivered by Simmons family spokesperson Tom Estey, who indicated that Richard’s brother Lenny Simmons was the one who received the phone call from medical examiners with definitive findings. According to the LA County Coroner’s Office, Richard’s death was officially deemed accidental. Furthermore, it was due to multiple complicating factors, including injuries from recent falls and the presence of heart disease. The statement explained:

“This morning, Richard Simmons’ brother Lenny, received a call from the LA Coroner’s office. The Coroner informed Lenny that Richard’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor. The toxicology report was negative other than medication Richard had been prescribed. The Family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss.”

Wow.

Such a sad thing. We knew that Richard had experienced recent falls and related medical episodes — including one on his birthday that he had ultimately decided not to deal with until the next day, which turned out to be too late. So, to know now that those issues were part of what led to his death makes it all the more tragic. Ugh.

As you may recall, Lenny has been vocally mourning his brother ever since Richard’s passing last month. To that end, the mourning brother previously spoke to the media with a message of hope and a plea for people to remember the famed fitness icon positively:

“I don’t want people to be sad about my brother. I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives. He truly cared about people. He called, wrote and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer help. So, don’t be sad. Celebrate his life.”

That’s great advice that we should surely all take.

As we reported over the weekend, Perry made a truly crushing last statement to his assistant Kenneth Iwamasa on that fateful day back in October 2023, just hours before his death. And now, as it turns out, there were multiple HUGE red flags that had occurred just prior to the Friends actor’s death that were completely overlooked.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly on Monday, between October 24 and 27, 2023 — just a few days before Perry’s passing on the 28th of that month — Iwamasa found the television star “unconscious at his residence on at least two occasions” due to the usage of “significant quantities of ketamine” at that time.

Holy s**t!

AT LEAST TWO different points where Perry became unconscious from the drug?! In just four days leading up to his death?? So unsettling. And tragic! And it’s doubly tragic because according to those very same court docs, Iwamasa just kept on injecting the Friends alum “with approximately 6-8 shots per day” despite those two unconsciousness scares. WTF…

As we reported over the weekend, Iwamasa allegedly injected Perry with a first shot of ketamine at approximately 8:30 a.m. on the October 28. Then, about four hours later, he administered a second shot. Following that, as we’ve noted, the Canadian actor asked Iwamasa to prepare the hot tub and “shoot me up with a big one” — Perry’s last known words — despite having only just received that prior shot about 40 minutes before.

Following the third injection, Iwamasa left the star’s Los Angeles home to run errands. Upon returning to the residence later that afternoon, he found Perry face down in the hot tub. The star was soon thereafter officially pronounced dead. And of course, medical examiners later determined that Perry’s cause of death came from the “acute effects of ketamine” that led to his drowning in the jacuzzi.

Now that we are finally learning about the horribly scary events in the days leading up to Perry’s tragic and untimely passing, the whole situation is somehow even more heartbreaking. Two unconsciousness events right before death! Ugh! We continue to send our condolences to Perry’s family, friends, loved ones, and co-stars amid this incredibly awful ongoing situation.

Of course, we’ve been covering the tale of the so-called “Ketamine Queen,” whose real name is Jasveen Sangha. She has been accused, along with several other people, of funneling ketamine to the Friends alum in the months leading up to his death last year. She’s also been accused of dealing drugs in a massive and unsettling second investigation that is unrelated to Perry. And now, we are learning more about how she came into contact with the sitcom star in the first place.

On Friday night, TMZ‘s Harvey Levin appeared alongside Dr. Drew Pinsky on CUOMO on NewsNation. During that interview, Levin indicated that his outlet’s sources have determined that Sangha and Perry were in the same Los Angeles-area rehab facility at the same time not long before Perry’s death. During that stay, they met and connected — and then, Levin claims, Sangha and her network began to supply Perry with ketamine and reap the profits of those sales.

The issue is much bigger than just Perry and Sangha, too. Levin was adamant during Friday’s interview that there is unfortunately a network of doctors and dealers accessing and distributing drugs to rich clients for profit. Inevitably and tragically, some of those cases spiral into addiction — and then, as with Perry, their addictions end in death. Levin said:

“This is not just about Matthew Perry. There is a network of doctors and others who are funneling drugs to people with means. A lot of these people meet in rehab!”

The TMZ boss continued during his chat with Pinsky and show host Chris Cuomo:

“This is a serious problem that tragically happened to Matthew Perry, but goes way beyond him.”

Unsettling…

As for Pinsky, he hypothesized that the two defendants in the Perry case who have not pled guilty or agreed to a plea deal already may concoct a defense that Perry’s death was unintentional and negligent, rather than directly motivated or induced. Dr. Drew explained:

“Somebody may use this [as] a defense in court, which is awful, because it doesn’t make it any less outrageous that he was given extraordinary amounts of clearly dangerous drugs. This was a customer. They didn’t want him to die.”

A Texas tween is dead after her parents allegedly failed to seek medical attention for her severe injuries… and instead opted to treat the pre-teen with homemade vitamin smoothies.

According to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, 12-year-old Miranda Sipps died on Monday night at Methodist Hospital in the small town of Atascosa, which is southwest of San Antonio. She was a cheerleader at local Jourdanton Junior High School, and had been set to turn 13 later this month. Now she never will. So awful…

Cops looking into her death quickly discovered her parents withheld key medical care from the little girl. On Tuesday, the girl’s mother Denise Balbaneda (pictured above, right in her mugshot) and her stepfather Gerald Gonzales (above, left) were arrested in the small town of Christine. Per the sheriff’s office, they were charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury by omission — which is a first-degree felony — and booked into Atascosa County Jail.

Speaking at a news conference about the case on Wednesday, Sheriff David Soward informed the media Miranda was badly injured. And Balbaneda and Gonzales “tried tending to” their daughter at home for days while she was “primarily unconscious.” Soward said the parents “tried a couple of remedies” on the ailing girl before her death — one of which included a smoothie with some vitamins mixed in. They also appear to have tried to give her supplemental oxygen at one point. Soward stated:

“Basically, they thought they could nurse her back to health, and we do not think they wanted the attention that this would draw if the little girl was injured, which is strangely ironic, but that was their line of thinking.”

Unsettling…

Soward termed Sipps’ initial issues to be “serious life-threatening injuries” which she sustained last Thursday, a full FOUR DAYS prior to her death. But interestingly, and chillingly, the sheriff did NOT reveal the extent of those injuries, or how they may have been caused in the first place — only that the girl’s parents didn’t take her to get medical attention for way too long. Was there a darker reason they were trying to cover up the injuries? They’re not being charged with anything else yet, so that part is still a mystery.

Per My San Antonio and others, the sheriff’s statement continued:

“The investigation revealed the parents failed to seek medical assistance for the girl, even though she was mentally and physically incapacitated and non-responsive. It appears the mother finally called 9-1-1 when the girl went into respiratory distress.”

The whole thing came to a head on Monday night with that extremely belated 9-1-1 call. After Balbaneda called paramedics, Soward said that she and Gonzales rushed Sipps to the hospital. EMS personnel in an ambulance intercepted them en route and transported the girl to the emergency room. Sadly, it was too late. Despite medical staff “vigorously” treating the pre-teen on Monday night, her condition was too severe, and she was pronounced at 9:55 p.m. local time.

As for why the girls’ parents waited so long to bring her to receive medical attention — and regarding why they drove her to the hospital themselves rather than waiting for trained paramedics to stabilize her — Soward speculated the parents didn’t want law enforcement officers in their home. Hmmm.

Vance, of course, is the Hillbilly Elegy author turned United States Senator from Ohio who has now been picked to be Donald Trump‘s running mate for this election cycle. On Wednesday night, the Friends actress reshared a video of Vance saying something truly shocking about women that should have us ALL incredibly concerned.

Aniston took to her Instagram Stories account to share the clip — and comment on it, too. The video itself was from a 2021 interview Vance did on Fox News with then-anchor Tucker Carlson. During that interview, which took place while Vance was running for Senate, the current VP candidate slammed Democrat politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pete Buttigieg, and Kamala Harris. The charge? Being childless!

In that old clip, Vance moaned about how “childless cat ladies” are controlling the Democrats, and thus, controlling the country. He said in part to Carlson:

“It’s just a basic fact. You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC — the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”

And he went on:

“[They are] a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

Yeesh!

The 55-year-old sitcom star couldn’t abide by that, though. And she used IG to fight back! Sharing a clip of the offensive quote on Wednesday evening, she first wrote above it:

“I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States.”

Then, below the video, Aniston added this particularly poignant follow-up:

“All I can say is… Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her too”

Now, for one, Harris actually does have kids: she’s the stepmother to her husband Doug Emhoff‘s two children — son Cole, 29, and daughter Ella, 25. But oooooookay, JD!

As for Aniston, the child chat and pregnancy discussion no doubt hits home. She’s been plagued by pregnancy rumors throughout her career, and has also tried to bring children into this world, but it never happened for her. Back in November of 2022, she recalled to Allure how difficult it was for her to try to have a baby while with ex-husband Brad Pitt and at other points in her younger years:

“All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would have given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it.”

She also followed up with that outlet at the time:

“Here I am today. The ship has sailed… I actually feel a little relief now because there is no more, ‘Can I?’ I don’t have to think about that anymore.”

So, she has been through it emotionally on both sides of the debate — trying to have them as a younger woman, and not being able to do so and moving on with life beyond motherhood. She knows of what she speaks! And she certainly knows it better than JD Vance… just saying!

Damn!

She’s not wrong. Remember, just days ago, 18-year-old Alabama Barker copped to using weight loss drugs in a shocking and candid reveal. Knowing all the rampant body image issues in both Hollywood and on social media, we can’t even imagine the pressure all these public-facing young women are feeling.

Bella is trying to push past all that, though. Thankfully, she acknowledged she has been much more physically active recently in a bid to improve her health and her self-confidence:

“I have swam every day and I have sweat out everything possible and I have walked everywhere. And, I’m finally feeling good about myself, OK?”

And she ended on a feisty note, too! The former child star told Ozempic to eff off in not so many words by flipping off the camera at the end of her video clip:

“I’m finally feeling good, so Ozempic, you can… [flips off the camera] …off.”

In her eyes, she sadly agrees with what the haters are saying. Now, she admits she’s using weight loss drugs to try to shed some pounds, despite being just 18 and totally healthy. The teen continued:

“And it’s, like, I see what you guys are seeing, but just, like, meet me in person. I feel like I don’t look like that. But I’m on weight-loss medication because I’m tired of being fat and photographing like a damn ogre.”

This is so sad. She does not need weight loss drugs at all. And she definitely does not photograph like an “ogre”! We hate so much that Alabama thinks of herself this way because she’s letting the bullying comments of internet weirdos get to her. Watch the video (below):

Alabama doesn’t name which drug she’s on. However, her mom, Shanna Moakler, shared last month how she used the Type 2 diabetes medication Mounjaro to help her lose weight after she got to a “very dark place” and ate “the pain away” when both her parents died in 2023. Could it be that same one? Hmm.

Our hearts break for Alabama. We hope she realizes she is amazing just the way she is and doesn’t need to change her appearance — especially just because of some hate comments online. And certainly not at 18 when she isn’t even done growing into her look yet! Tons of people naturally shed that last bit of what’s called “baby fat” as they become adults in their early 20s! Why would some doctor not caution her to wait until that happens before prescribing medication with potentially dangerous side effects?
